Day 1 on deck..a couple degrees below zero in town looks like it will be an inversion day. View from outside my room yesterday and pictures from supper last night at Gather That salad looks amazing. I love the tiny fishes on it, they must have truly enhanced the flavor. I wonder what did Atomic Jeff get on his salad??? Quote

saltyant Posted Wednesday at 04:36 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:36 PM @GrilledSteezeSandwich can you post some live updates? I don't see you on the Jackson Hole webcams. Are you going to sit butt to nut on the tram?? Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted Wednesday at 05:30 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 05:30 PM On the gondola again. So far two gondolas, three thunders, three sublettes and one union pass run. Dead empty here today and my spry self skied the Hobacks like a champion almost nonstop. 7 1 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted Wednesday at 09:57 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 09:57 PM January 28, 2025 Day 1 of 7 Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Jackson Hole mountain resort. The day began with a walk to the bagel place for breakfast sandos for me and Atomic Jeff…we left the Mountain modern at 8am and arrived in the village around 820am where it was around -12…it’s a dry Rocky Mountain -12 so I wore underarmor, long sleeve t shirt and jacket. It was 28 at the top, a full 40 degree inversion. First civilian gondola to first run down Amphitheater..full sunshine and visibility the snow was a little firm but decent. Up Thunder and down Grand which was alright like good eastern snow. Up Sublette and down Rendevous trail similar snow. Up Sublette again to Bivouac which hadn’t been groomed since Saturday and had small moguls on the sides and scrapped off down the middle…it was like 10% chalk and 90% slick. Over to Thunder and down amphitheater again up Thunder and down grand again to Sublette up Sublette to the Hobacks. The Hobacks were nice and I impressed myself with being able to ski at least half of it without stopping…my bump skiing and 3D skiing came back instantly…as I descended it got chillier and was downright freezing by the Union pass chair and I was also sweaty. Up Union pass back to the gondola, down amphitheater again to thunder and we rode thunder with a guy from Buffalo NY who moved here five months ago and is a nurse and he qualified for affordable housing which is essentially half price rent, not $2200 for an apartment. That may seem like a lot for people who live in Reading or Allentown but that’s a bargain and he prob makes $150k a year here cause he’s a special kind of nurse. Over to Nez Perce traverse to the Casper area, the one cat track that crosses has a no jumping sign that in my younger days I’d get absolutely booted off of it, well today had my best air of the season…it’s amazing now being a little lighter still real fat and a little older I have a thirst for some air…I don’t care I love it. Up Casper and down wide open to the Teton lift I found some untracked week old pow pow in the woods from A week or two ago. Up Teton chair and down to Apres vous up Apres vous and we ended the session with a run down Saratoga bowl which was very forgiving..mostly chalky snow and small bumps…solid base for lowish elevation. I was pretty sweaty when we got to the base and then we went to the mangy moose for giant soft pretzel, green chili with pork and Wilson IPA. All in all an excellent first day, I felt good, it was empty, it was sunny and my untuned skis did what they were supposed to do. Sorry not many pics today and I already post some earlier. A lot of people seem to be on the RTMs in the 170 length also some Gilson banners set up in front of the Alpenhof..it’s a snowboard brand based out of the east coast..not to be confused with Stilson or Gilson 1 1 Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted 6 hours ago Author Report Posted 6 hours ago 1/30/24… Day 2 of 7 Hey all, I’m finished with another fun ski day at Jackson hole mountain resort. We arrived at the ski resort around 830am and it was -10 at the base and 28 degrees at the summit. First civilian gondola again and down amphitheater first which was decent eastern cord. Up Thunder and down Laramie which was groomed and kind of stiff. Then up Sublette and skied Bivoac which saw a rare grooming and was fairly edgeable chalky snow… We repeated Bivoac two more times then skied back to Thunder and skied Ampitheater to lower Tram line. We then took the Tram up and was basically a walk on Tram. Rendevous bowl was really bad refrozen crud and bumps…makes sense as it hit 49 degrees yesterday at the summit. Back to Bivoac a fourth time and up Sublette then down to the Hobacks. I really enjoy the spicy entrance but just like in R bowl, most of the hobbers got cooked yesterday but some decent snow along the boundary line…wow I got really sweaty on that run and then freezing cold as the valley was still about zero degrees. Then up union pass to teewinot and up apres vous and skied a random groomer and had my fill. Just like yesterday we skied about 12-13 runs for a little over 20k of vertical. Lunch was at Osteria I had some sort of Italian soup and margarita pizza. JFDan is now in town and tomorrow Nazareth Jay and Dirtwolf arrive. JADIP 6 1 Quote

I expect an absolute shitshow this weekend if the forecasted weather holds. The current snowpack won’t be able to handle the incoming load so the Avalanche conditions are gonna be insane with 40”+ on tap but I have to remind myself that I’m here. A lot of people won’t be able to get in tomorrow night through Wednesday. 1 Quote
PSUFrankenstein Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago I hope you can handle the incoming load Looking forward to the powder pics 1 Quote

I rode the lift with Jake Burton at Stowe when I was in college. I knew who he was instantly cause I read pretty much every ski publication back then. I also so him at Piecasso in Stowe years later. He’s a legend and legends rule RIP Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted 45 minutes ago Author Report Posted 45 minutes ago JFDan made it to town earlier this afternoon. We hung out and drank a couple beers in his fireplace suite then went to Bubbas bbq for supper. I had a vegetarian lunch, not on purpose just what I wanted and made up for it with a two meat combo brisket and smoked sausage…with fries and baked beans and an Arnold Palmer..and Texas toast. Tomorrow clouds will be moving in, if we get a few sunny runs in early that will be a bonus cause we aren’t gonna see much sunshine the next five days… 1 Quote

I hope JFDan remembered to bring some charcuterie from Malvern to share with the locals Quote
