nitromtnrep Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 well back when I heard that killington was opening oct 29th, I also heard that Hunter and Windem talked about opening around mid november. since then it's been ungodly warm. anyone hear or know anything better. I just need to hit the snow. I'm also hoping for a good reopening weekend up at killington on the 11th. plenty of snow pics, no seen opening dates. Quote
romemadman Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 hunter is saying the 19th highly doubt it tho i will probably be up before it opens too up at my friends house Quote

Philpug Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Hunter is usually good for a pre Thanksgiving opening. Unfortunatly, it wasn't last nor does it look good for this season either. Quote
Ski Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 I've been watching the long range for Waitsfield, VT, (Sugarbush), which is an hour north of KMart, and even they are warm for the next 10 days. Quote
VTmark Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 i've been checking the weaqther for the entire north east. and not good. Quote

lastduchess113 Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 something better be open befor my teachers go on strike tho. or ealse..... I second that, only for me it's, something better be open the day after thanksgiving... Quote
capt'n morgan ski Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 My uncle is an ex-ranger at Hunter (one of the better ones...believe me) he's been there for over 25 years... his peoples are telling him that they are doing everything they can (again dependent on the weather) to be open for the Thanksgiving weekend. Everyone start prayin.... ------- ... got a lil captain in you? Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Have they ever not been open on Thanksgiving weekend? Quote
capt'n morgan ski Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Have they ever not been open on Thanksgiving weekend? I'm honestly not sure... I could ask him at some point. Someone mentioned before that they wern't open last year... so I don't know. Good question though. Quote
nitromtnrep Posted November 6, 2005 Author Report Posted November 6, 2005 just rumors i've heard. I need to get the lead out and see some white stuff. Quote
lastduchess113 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Capt'n, I mean it... if shawnee isn't open that weekend, I'll drive to Hunter... I'll get up at 430 on my birthday to drive... but we are skiing that day. Quote
Ski Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 The problem with extended forecasts beyond 5 days is that they start taking into account average temps for those days. If you see a forecast for 11/21/05 right now, it'll mostly just be what the annual average is for that day. Quote

I don't know why i keep going back. on the other hand, killington looks like it should be ok for this coming weekend, hopefully the rain won't show or will be snow. Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Ski's right after 5 days it's a crap shoot. The jet stream has the most to do with the temps and it is very hard to predict. There is currently tons of cold air up in Canada, if the jet would dip down about 500 miles we would be in great shape for an early start to 05/06 season. Quote

The radar functions are much more accurate. but anything over a couple of days out is educated guesswork. Quote
