librider Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I just caught it on the news they were showing everyone the new cat and driving it around. Also they said they would like to start making snow at the end of this weekend! And lastly they said snowtubing could be open for thanksgiving...what a waste of snow. Quote
stevePSSC Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 hahha i agree.. we could just go there at like midnight.. and ride down the snowtube park on our boards Quote
skidude Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Hopefully if thats open by thanksgiving, They are open the weekend after (I plan on being up in VT/NY for most of turkey day break...so hopefully it won't matter for me.... Gotta love driving a $500,000 SNOW groomer on dirt... Quote
librider Posted November 15, 2005 Author Report Posted November 15, 2005 Yeah i cant belive they actually said snowmaking this weekend. But god they make snow and only open snowtubing?! what a damn waste of snow! Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I just read the article, and it doesnt have snowmaking or tubing in quotes from the cb staff. So maybe she was just trying to piss us off. Quote
skidude Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 No, for whatever reason, snowtubing always opens the same day, or the day before the mountain does...Least in the last few years. Quote
ThinkSnow Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I'm sure it'd be huge income for them to have snowtubing open by TG weekend, and much less initial cost than opening the mountain... I doubt we'll see any snow on the ground by that weekend, but here's hoping! Quote
Ski Freek!! Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Yeah i cant belive they actually said snowmaking this weekend. But god they make snow and only open snowtubing?! what a damn waste of snow! haha i agree what a wast of good snow seriaclyy!!! Quote

mtnbiker99x Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I can confirm that the stuff has been set up on the mountain for over a month and they are ready to go soon as it gets cold enough. There is a push to open the mountain compared to years past. I agree snow tubing sux. Quote

I doubt we'll see any snow on the ground by that weekend, but here's hoping! Whatever makes them money. ITs alot easier for them to make a little snow and get the snow tubers than to try and cover some of the trails and have folks complain "there arent enough trails open" blah blah blah Well if they are opening the snowtubing .. the trails cant be far away Quote
steezy Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I agree with everything you guys have said here. But where can I read this? Anyone got a link? Quote

poconoceancity Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 snow tubing is a waste of snow, but it has helped many PA mountains with the amount of revenue it has produced in the last 5-10 years. Quote
bigdaddyk Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 (edited) They can open snowtubing...as long as they have them go down one of the ski trails. Could you imagine sending them down Margie's? I'd think the conditions for tubing aren't going to be the best. Once it goes above freezing, it makes it slow for the tubes. skidude Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 He has a point..Tubes will slow down a lot once it gets too warm. HOWEVER ski areas counter that by putting salt down on the lanes (yes, they do use salt for warm snowtubing days). They also use salt out on race courses on a warm day. It sucks out all the extra water from the snow, and makes the snow harder (and faster). Quote
skigurl Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 i've heard from a few different sources that the guns will be turned on tomorrow night....not sure the reason but hey it's one step closer Quote
skidude Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 i've heard from a few different sources that the guns will be turned on tomorrow night....not sure the reason but hey it's one step closer Miss the pinned topic on the top of the page here? CB WILL be turning on the guns tomorrow night, and there is a topic on that already (so please send all drooling that way Quote
LineSki Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 haha was it the front page of cb that gave it away? Quote

Yep, the ONLY reason Montage has turned profitable is because of the snowtubing. The water park didn't work and was shut down. Without tubing, Montage would probably be a used car lot by now. Quote

But I know a girl whos from Moscow, and her father is up high at Montage. She was saying that a company is looking at it, and they want to put a summer park in there, just like Camel Beach. She didnt say if its just or a proposal or a real good chance, but the possibility is there. Edited November 16, 2005 by montageskier Quote
skidude Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Sadly for ski999, if its done right, apparently it makes lots of $$ Quote
