skifreak Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 According to my weather station and the forecasts from the Weather Channel/Accuweather I should be able to start snowmaking for 2005/2006 tomorrow evening. I have included below pics of some guns (not all) and my snowmaking stats. This is going to be my best season ever with the addition of five new guns to replace old guns/upgrade my system. I have also decided that I will not be making snowguns for home use, only for resort use when I start my business. I came to this conclusion because I just don't see a strong enough market for home snowmaking, and I don't want to be a sell out to home snowmakers. In about 2 weeks my snowguns will be sent to various resorts (not all local) for testing. If all proves well with the resort guns, I will be opening for next ski season over the summer with five snowgun models, unless I get my tower gun plans back from an engineer in time for production then I will have more. The best thing about my business is my uncle a former snowmaker came on board and really helped me a lot with his expierence. My uncle who is a mechanic is also helping out by allowing me to use some of his stalls in his huge garage for storage. Lets all hope for a great ski season. Bring on the snow 2005/2006 Snowmaking Stats Number of snowguns: 18 Number of compressors: 3 Total CFM: 46 cfm Number of pumps/pressure washers: 6 Total GPM: 18.3 gpm Number of guns able to run at once: 6-8 (depends on type) Usable GPM: 12.4gpm Amount of hose: Just shy of 3/4 mile Number of Hydrants: 4 Number of new guns: 5 Quote
ThinkSnow Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 Awesome Freak! Make sure to get us lots of pics, good luck! And don't go blowing air into your parent's water lines again... they may get a little upset! Haha I guess I deleted the wrong one.. you can put the pics back.. Quote
skifreak Posted November 17, 2005 Author Report Posted November 17, 2005 Thats fine I'm posting a link for pics anyway. Quote
Ski Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 Good luck, Freak! I'm interested to see how the resort testing goes. Quote
skifreak Posted November 17, 2005 Author Report Posted November 17, 2005 Ok here is a link for the pics. Just ignore the rust on the floor. It rained and flooded when they built the house and it kind of ruined the basement floor. Ignore the mess too as we are in the middle of finishing the basement. http://www.paskiandride.com/forums/index.p..._album&album=81 Quote
pyro_boarder Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 Wow, that's a lot of fire power. Hopefuly we'll see a large pile of snow in your yard friday morning. Quote
lurker Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 (edited) That's quite a collection you've got going. I find the amount of compressors and water supply you have to be even more impressive. Wasn't it just last year that you were talking about not being able to blow anymore after blowing air back into your house lines and killing your water heated or something? Seems like everythings going good now though! We too are looking forward to starting up our snowgun tomorrow. We blew a small amount last friday as a test, but we all had to much to do to stay up super late and blow a pile. With lows of 22 we are gonna pump it out though! I'm unfortuantely going to be up in Rochester and Syracuse checking out colleges, but its alright cause I'll being hitting the cities street unicycle style . I'm going to Switzerland right after that so I'm out for a while (in a very good way), but when I get back my friends better have like 5 feet of base or I'm gonna be pissed haha. Pictures of our stuff is at www.bradsplace.org. The link is in my sig. Enjoy the cold temps everyone. Hopefully The Public Enemy can post a pic or something later of our mini-snow park. skifreak Posted November 17, 2005 Author Report Posted November 17, 2005 Yeah I had trouble last year with air going back into my house water lines after the check valve failed. I have a lot of cfm due to my Ingersol Rand T-30 air compressor my uncle gave to me from his old shop. That combined with two other compressors gives me 46cfm. Sometimes I have a 185cfm compressor and just use that. Since I have a lot of air I want to use it all. Thats why I have so many pumps. I haven't quite finished my other pump so that will be done soon. Right now it looks like I will just use t and y guns as it is going to get warm the next few days. Next week I will fire the combos and other guns. Good luck to you Lurker, Pyro, Mark, and anyone else who is going to make some tonight. Quote
Papasteeze Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 I still want a freakin gun or two - Just sell me a couple of yours and build some more new ones! All I need is a gun, does anyone have anything? I can get all the water, air and electricity that is needed, I just need a gun......... Quote
skifreak Posted November 17, 2005 Author Report Posted November 17, 2005 Well I could run my combo gun tonight but I went to get the pressure washer hose to find out the dog chewed it over the summer Thats all right though, its a little windy where I am going to start so I will just use the y gun until I get a new hose tomorrow. I'm all set and could actually start blowing now. In a way its good because I wait to really start using the combo when it stays in the 30's for highs. Quote
skimom Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 We need pics, 'Freakie. And, don't blow up your Moms laundry room this year, ok? Quote
skifreak Posted November 17, 2005 Author Report Posted November 17, 2005 I'm off now to start making snow. I should be able to start now. Pics later tonight or tomorrow. Quote
skifreak Posted November 18, 2005 Author Report Posted November 18, 2005 Went and made snow for an hour. Only made a little since it was marginal and the wind carried it and coated my grandmothers car roof which was parked in my driveway. I'm not going to bother posting pics, there was little snow and with the mist you could only see the frozen water and not the snow. Only had minor problems, the compressor tripping the breaker and in one case shutting off with out tripping the breaker... I hope to god I can get to home depot to get that hose tomorrow. Quote
