Way to soon to be bringing Tucks up...I hear that and I think of the end of the season. Bring it up again in late march, or maybe April when we start taliking about a PASR golf or Mt. biking day.

A variety of reasons mostly relating to weather. It's nasty up there at this time of year. Later in the winter the Avi danger is often high. In April, the hike up is relatively safe, and the snow is corn. You can ski all the way down in March or early April too. Last time we went the ground weather was fine, and there was a big high over New England. As we climbed, we met winds of 90 mph and we couldn't get past the tree line. And that was in April - so there is never a guarantee...

Remember, you hike up Mt washington carrying 40 or so pounds, including your skis and boots.

I've done it seven times (once or twice for the past 4 years)

I'll be going back again this year!

Earliest I've ever been was early april on an early sping year. It was even sketchy then. My buddies from Meathead films did it in February I do believe. The footage can be seen in Epoch.

I'll touch on this topic more in the morning, but for now it's bedtime!

I'm actually wearing my Tuck's hat right now

Ohhh how I love that place! **Going to have sweetdreams tonight** :halo

I skied Tuck's once. Definitely don't go this time of year. We'll be reading an article about you in a month. Doug, didn't you know you went to UVM. Actually thinking of starting up there next fall. Stowe is my fav. mountain. tell me you've taken the waterfall...

Agree with everything, ecxept about the intermediate runs - where are they? Everything I've encountered is like skiing down a cliff.

Look out for the great gulf too. It is accessed later than TR, and is also awesome. It's harder because you ski, then hike. At TR, you hike first, so you have some ability to know what you will be in for. The hike up in the gulf can be tough - crampons, etc. I've only been there in the summer, but it's worth going, just to see it.

Stowe is my fav eastern ski area, also. Besides the scene of my most stunning crash, it was also at Stowe where I enjoyed first tracks in two feet of freash powder under the lift in 1974. Just unbelievable. I've never experienced softer snow while skiing.

I learned to ski at Bolton Valley when I was really young. I learned how to rip at Stowe. I had an instructor there for 5 days (group lessons that all became privates lol) and he just got me skiing with new school style, and this was at most a year after shaped skis came out. Gotta love Stowe. Just thinking about it almost puts on my "O" face...
