Congrats to Papa and Ridge for silver medals in today's Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge at Jack Frost. The cold wind and an extra 40 minute delay in getting the timing gear to work took it's toll on us (Ty and I were both crying like 5 yr. olds 'cause our feet were cold and hurt :) )...Ty crashed, but bounced back up to finish third among the little one's.

It was nice that they gave away a ton of shirts and stuff, but they ran the race on a slope that was probably a little too steep for little kids, especially with icy conditions, and they don't allow inspection for the one run race, which is like taking a test without being able to study.

The FREE race series moves to CB tomorrow, where I'm sure it'll be handled a little more racer friendly...at the very minimum, you can see the course ahead of time from the lift and the far side of the same slope.

One nice benefit is that the top three finishers in each age/gender catagory get a free ticket to the Eastern Regionals at Loon, NH...

Here's a pic of our crash:

Ha, thanks, 'Mom...they take a photo of all the medalists in front of an inflatable can of Mountain Dew and she kept holding up the envelope with paperwork for the Loon trip ) . Not sure how she plans to get to Loon, since I wasn't allowed to race today...

Why were you not allowed to race.

Oh, and congrats to the little one. :clap

Congrat's to your little one, it's really cool that she has the confidence to do stuff like that.

Thanks...I had her a little over her head today. She's wicked proud of her medal, but she cried for 40 minutes in the race line. We'll be at Toys R Us right after it opens tomorrow, finding the things I promised her...

No problem, we will drive her up if you are unavailable. Maybe we can get the 'dude qualified. Any other qualifying races around here? :D

The Dew Challenges were fun - we got lots of free stuff and got a chance to get some race gate jitters under our belt. Ridge beat me on the JF - 45 second course by a full 5 seconds!! I got silver in a field of 12 - I wish Ski999 had raced, it was kind of embarrassing to get a medal since I don't consider myself a racer. Ridge got a chance to see who his competition is for his J4 race on 1/7 - lost by 2 tenths of second to a 12 year old kid 6 inches taller than him with hair on his face. :confused Camelback was different format with a dual 25 second course. Ridge only beat me by one second this time :woot I got a silver again and Ridge got the Gold - both of us had a field of about 12. Our own skidude won his division and the fastest time over all.

Thanks again to Mountain Dew and the bevy of Sponsors that promote this form of recreational racing. It was fun and pleasant way to spend a day on the slopes. The caveat was that Vokly has them all riding on Karmas :rock and they give away little H2 Die cast Mountain dew Hummers!!

Since the finals are on the first of april = it might be a serious possibility to go up there. Good times.
