skimom Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Congrats to 'dude who won CB's Mountain Dew challenge with a blistering time of about 23 seconds down Raceway. I'm thinking Ridge and Pops won their age groups too. Anyone else from here enter the race? Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 (edited) I entered the race, but took my bad crash around 10 am. Needless to say, I was at Pocono Medical center around start time. Wish I got to see everyone. Congrats skidude and everyone else who ran fast. Wish I could have been there with ya. I think I'm going to attempt to qualify for nationals once my shoulders and spine heal up at one of the new england races. Hopefully we'll all be up at Loon together. Ski Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 The prize is a medal and a lift ticket to Loon on 4/1 to ski in the finals. It's a VERY 'introductory' sort of race series, especially since it's just a single run down a NASTAR-like course. On the upside, the race series is FREE, other than the lift ticket. And they give away tons of door prizes during the awards ceremony. At JF, they gave away about 10 cases of soda, 20 t-shirts, 10 towels, 10 hoody sweatshirts, a snowboard, 2 pairs of skis, and a dozen pairs of Hotfingers gloves. Also, they walked around with free bottles of soda. The series is to hype their product, not make money off the kids that day. They also sold raffle tickets and raised money for the Make a Wish Foundation, so there was some real good deed stuff going on, too. Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Yeah, this is definitely not any kind of serious race series, but it'd be nice to get a free ticket to Loon. Its like going home... I haven't ripped down flume or walking boss in a while... Quote
Shadows Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 anyone know what the slowest time was? people who didnt crash, just went slow and finished. Quote
skimom Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 I don't know the slowest time - the results are not posted yet. But there are fast racers and also ridiculously slow ones. I wish I could have skied in it too - it would be worth traveling to another Pocono resort to enter. I don't think I'd go as far as to New England. It's almost straight - 22 seconds is CB's straight line time down raceway. 23 seconds means about one real turn. Metzy boy - what happened to you? Are you okay? Quote
Ski Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I wonder where he'll race in college and if he'll be in the Olympics in 4 years. It would be cool to have a PASR member competing You'll get to cheer for him up close on 1/21 at Blue's PA Cup race. The best racers in Pennsylvania open the seven race series that Saturday, then hit CB's Cliffhanger for another GS on Sunday. Winners of those races will be one step closer to a spot at the Junior Olympics. Quote

It's almost straight - 22 seconds is CB's straight line time down raceway. 23 seconds means about one real turn. Metzy boy - what happened to you? Are you okay? I was warming up with some high speed runs down big pocono, and I'm not really sure what happened, but I lost my right ski. when I tried to turn on the left ski to slow down and control my fall I lost that ski and went skidding off to the right. I went back first into one of the metal poles holding up the permanent fence. Got a toboggan ride and an ambulance ride, 2 bruised shoulder blades (can't lift my arms barely at all) and 4 bruised vertebrae. One of the patrollers and some people came over and told me just how ridiculously fast I am and that they saw my ski just come out clean... it was a good ego boost until I had to ride down on a back board. Went into shock in the patrol shed and needed oxygen. Doctor at pocono medical said I've got to be full of piss and vinegar because I'm in the worst shape of anyone that came in yesterday and i'm the only one without a broken bone. He gave me clearance to ski in a week, as long as I'm feeling strong. I really wanna be up at the finals for this Mtn. Dew thing with everyone, so I'm going to try and qualify later in the year in Mass or something. No way I'm going to let this keep me down. I'll be back gunning for Nastar nationals in no time as well. Ski the dream. Quote
skimom Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 Time to check your dins. Sounds like you were lucky. Are you starting to improve yet? I'd like to qualify too, since I'll likely be going to Loon with 'dude if he doesn't have a more important race or trip that day. But a trip to NE for one straight run to qualify still seems like too much. Maybe if there was a second race somewhere... Is the 999let or the Larick squad going to Loon? Quote
Ski Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I'll be back gunning for Nastar nationals in no time as well. You'll have lots of local opportunities for that, Metz. And if you're free Thursday nights, go to the Blue website and grab some $5 coupons. Is the 999let or the Larick squad going to Loon? Ha, no, we'll just be hiking for our Hideout turns by then. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Yeah that's the day before I leave for Jackson so it will definitely be a light ski day which is perfect for watching a race. I wonder if Atomic Jeff will be there that day Anyway I guess this is as good of a time as any to have fun with some icons... I've got the ASRA Dual GS at Blue on 1/22. I'm going to be skiing at Alta on 1/21, flying home that night to race the next morning, so I won't get to see the 'dude race Quote
skierboi Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 ill be there, hopefully finishing Quote
skimom Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 It had gates, but they were close to one below the other. The racer didn't have to turn sharply to get around them. Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Skimom- there are 3 dates left to race in Massachussetts... not as bad a ride for me, I realize, but still, closer than NH. I also think you can race the nationals if you buy a lift ticket at Loon for that day. If not, Loon is definitely worth the trip. Its a great mountain overall. Ski999- Yeah, there is definitely a long Nastar season ahead of us. i should be on snow for most of it, and I know I've got some fast skiing left in me when I get back at it. Still can't believe I went Sonny Bono... Quote
skimom Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 Still can't believe I went Sonny Bono... Hope you are feeling better soon. Quote
Margaritaville Skier Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Way to go "dude"!!! And to think I was crazy enough to challenge you last season. WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING!! PAX Quote
Shadows Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 not sure if everyone knows about this, or if it was posted. heres some pics http://www.pbase.com/mullerrj/mtdew Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 I'm feelin much better tonight... I think I'm going to have to challenge the dude in a couple weeks... hehe Quote
skimom Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 As much as I could use the extra business, I would rather it be from a stranger. Hey, while you are at it, any of you want to donate your brain to science? You could help both of our businesses. Well, only those who are MENTALLY NORMAL would qualify. Quote
VTmark Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 ....Well, only those who are MENTALLY NORMAL would qualify. you just ruled out this entire MB Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 First of all for Skimom- we're skiers. Normal doesn't apply to us. We are snow craving speed demons who love freezing cold weather. That alone defies normality. Doug- more cautious, yes. Slower- no. Because of the crash I'm going to be taking a full 9 weekends in the Camelback Adult Masters Program. If there is an error in my form then hopefully it will be uncovered there. That will cover any user fault that might have been involved. I'll be raising the din settings on my bindings as well as checking the forward pressure so that i won't pop out when i'm skiing as aggressively as I was on wed. If there was a mechanical problem, that should cover it. I plan on coming back faster than I ever was, and with more strength and precision. Often when muscles and bones are bruised they heal stronger than they ever were. I won't let one fall take away what I love most. Quote
