Ski Freek!! Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Spring snow can be fun and it's been comfortable booting up in the parking lot except for the mud and puddles. Mentally this warmth has been messing with me. Wearing sandals and ski boots in the same day should be reserved for the ides of March and beyond. I'd be happy with 25 degrees for the rest of the winter. I already messed up big time and never made a fruitcake for the mailman, ups dude, fed-ex dude, paperboy, kinkos employee, 2nd cousins dogs chew toy, and every customer that bought from me in 2005. So there is no need for below 20 degree fruitcake weather. When you ski fast you create your own windchill and a couple of nights a few weeks ago were real cold. I'm all about 25-30 degree goldilocks weather, not to warm, not to cold, just right and thats what the 15 day forecast looks like. The skiing in PA might be better than New England this weekend. Apparently temps were in the single digits in northern Vermont after yesterdays warmth and rain. Snow was hard and a dusting of snow fell which just barely covers up the nastys. ohh yeah the mudd ugh i hate itt!! haha it was a aad sight yesterday. i went to a mine fire testerday. and the ground was soo hot it started to melt the soles of my shoes. and i kicked a rock over and fire shot up from under it.. and theire was no snow to be seen.. it actually helped them find it. Ski Freek!! Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 I've got to visit Dickson City sometime. It sounds like nirvana for a pyro. I'm actually thinking of washing the mud off my ski jacket for an upcoming ski trip... I feel that scratched up goggles and muddy everything is keeping it real haha its actually olyphant that has the fire but its still liek reely close to my house haha yeah dude hook up with VTmark one of these times. he allwase comes up here and he kinda lives down by you Quote

volklyokel Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 The spring conditions were fun for a couple of days, but the southern PA resorts haven't been able to blow snow for over a week and the granular conditions are getting old. The National weather service 7-day outlook for southern PA is for the temps to remain about the same (mid 40's for daytime highs and around 30-32 for night-time lows). Folks might like to keep track of a couple of other resources. Here is a map of the northern hemisphere temperatures (the colored part, the white lines give barometric pressure), as seen from above the north pole. It is very useful to monitor "lobes" of cold air that might be heading our way. And here is a similar chart of the jet stream, which also helps to see how the atmosphere is pushing air masses around. For example, the fact that today's jet stream is so "flat" (i.e., it lacks north/south loops across North America) means that we're in a pretty steady temperature regime for a good while (the next few days). The best set up for us is to have a nice loop cross over Alaska and send cold air down across Alberta and the midwest. Such an event would help drop us down about 20-30 degrees. You might think that this is too much info for the average PASR snow hound, but this is the data that Accuweather relies on, when making their 10-day predicts... Volklyokel Quote
