steezy
... and people working at other mountains don't work as hard? No one is forcing you to keep the job if it's such a hardship leave. The point is you should aim at providing guests with the best possible experience within reason. Whats reasonable is up for debate. Apparently Papa thinks that parking further away is more than resonable, and I'd have to agree with him. No reason to delete or lock the topic. Yeah I know there was no reason to lock the topic I was in a bad mood. But if it wasnt for people like me and the patrolers there would be no camelback as we no it today... A ski resort relies on its employes as much as it does its guests. For example, without food serice camelback would loose alot of money. So be nice to us people that make it possible(or semi possible) for you to ski. I know when I worked there this summer they said park down in the 2nd lot or the lot by the colmore lift. I didn't have a car so I didn't pay much attention, but from what I understood CB didn't really ever enforce where their employees parked. I would assume in the winter they would say the same thing, but maybe not. Papa, Mum and I always seem to be in the first lot when we get there.... yeah we park in lot 9( the lot by the coolmore) which was originally a northridge lot but now has been made into an employee parking lot.. Yeah we are. But you know how I lolly gag with getting ready to get on the slopes and it has been my observation that the first lot already 3/4ths filled by 7:30 am. For nothing? Yeah - right, I have seen how much you "work" while you are at "work" you actually tell kids that their parents are jerks or so I was told. Oh - ok you weren't at work, you were on break or maybe it was your day off.... Go to Lot 6 for being customer unfriendly. ROFL hahaha I told steeve that I tought it was pretty messed up that his dad sent him to the race team for punishment. Dude thats just costing you money. And when ever you saw me it was on my day off. There was not one day last week that I worked,(and I owkred 6) that I got lunch or a break.
toast21602
think about it this way... if the employees arent there to run the lifts then you arent going to be skiing very much. if you are too darn lazy to walk an extra hundren yards to the slopes then maybe you should just be sitting at home in a recliner instead of skiing (think of it as warming up your legs). if you can ski, you can usually walk. if you dont feel like walking those extra few steps... then maybe you should leave 5 minutes earlier isntead of posting on here before you leave about how far you have to park... thats what i do. I tend to agree. I don't believe for a minute that at the start of the CB season that anyone other than Volklskier would not take the job if they were told that they had to park at the back. On the other hand if a CB employee left CB because they were told to park in the back, i don't believe for one moment that they would have a problem filling the empty position. ROFL hahaha I told steeve that I tought it was pretty messed up that his dad sent him to the race team for punishment. Funny how the story unfolds. The truth is that I told Steven that if he wants to compete in Freestyle then he will have to get other cross training. I am not going to spend the money hauling him around to different comps without skills that will help him succeed in a competition. Race team training dues, as are trampoline class (which he loves) are a small cost in comparison with the other expenses. If he wants to compete in the park, then he will get strength and drill training with the race team. Otherwise, he can just ski at CB's sucky little parks. Now that's not too much to ask is it? FYI - I posted for opinions at Newschoolers over the fall on this subject, the overwhelming majority of respondents were in favor of race training to compliment park skills (and visa versa).. Papasteeze
I think if parking is an issue you should have bought over at the Village like we did, instead of at Northridge. The single house was impulse buy. Parking is not so much an issue as was being chastised for parking by a CB employee who didn't know that he could have parked as close as I was which got me to thinking that I thought it was unusual to see a place of business fill the closest parking lot with employees. ...... and worthy of mentioning since I have heard from several other early birds how surprised they were that the first lot was filled. When I pointed out to them that most of those spots are CB employees.... Well you can imagine the reaction. Does CB provide shuttle service to North Ridge? I think so, but I am not sure and if they do it is probably from the club house. I doubt it is available on call. Plus I keep strange hours. North Ridge originally had its own parking but that was discontinued for some unknown reason.
Papasteeze
A thread about being unethical and parking in the handicapped space gets you 7 extra posts and now you put down Camelbacks sucky little parks. Your becoming real rude on here. Be friendly don't put down people on here. An employee who wears his uniform on his days off and spreads lies about punishment of a kid, is what to you? They think that since they work for what they consider minimum wage, yet reap free $50 lift tickets for a week straight that they should entitled to what would be customer parking spots at any other place of business? Yeah I shouldn't stoop to that same level. My apologies... I don't park in handicap spots however, I will park in what was a handicap spot.. Camelbacks' parks camparitively, especially when you consider the size of the operation, do suck. Everyone who skis park knows that. I guess it wasn't worth mentioning the obvious, I shouldn't have done that. But hey, they are improving and I have said that many more times than I have been harsh, did you notice any of those comments? Steven and I last night were asked to rate the PA parks.. BC by far Second: Blue RT Third: BB Montage Fourth: CB Fifth: JF then there are the, I don't knows, we havent been there yet.. Papasteeze
I'm glad that nipples likes Blues park second to Bear Creeks and he hasn't even riden the new park yet which is mad steezy. I didn't mean to come down on you but you seemed harsh to the kid. It's all good.. I skied with this kid several times. I asked him to do me a favor and tell Steven to watch some of his snide behavior towards me. He said he would. He never talked to me after that ,until a post where he said I was punishing my kid by making him go to race training. Nipples spends all his spare time on AIM and is very in tune with what is going on at all the parks in our area, everyone of them from Wisp to Belleayre. When are you going to ski some place different or than Blue? We will be at Whitetail Saturday, back at CB on Sunday.
sibhusky
Sibhusky is starting to catch up.... I have to work until Monday, then spend two days driving Siblet back to Bozeman (no I'm not going to Bridger it would cost me money) then a day, then two days of gatekeeping, then work. So...no worries, I'm not gonna catch you unless you take a slalom gate in the mouth.
sibhusky
The closing date is already determined between the mountain and the USFS -- April 9. Exceptions would only be in the wrong direction. And yes, it's due to the bears waking up and being hungry. Right now the lifts are closing at 4 PM, so it's a bit tough to do more than 40. sibhusky
I've seen a griz while hiking in Glacier, well off engaged in scooping something out of a tree. I've had a black bear climbing up the column to Siblet's deck before being scared off. I've had elk, whitetail, muledeer, pileated woodpeckers, and a bald eagle right off our deck. Also two different kinds of hummingbirds. I saw a mountain lion cross the road up on the way to my house. Uh, you have it backwards... without customers there would be no jobs and no mountain. Thats the whole point. YOU as an employee should be doing NICE things for the CUSTOMERS. Thats what you're there for. Customers being nice to employees just for showing up to work hahahahaha. There are other mountains. It's not like if CB went out of business there would be nowhere to ski/ride in the area. I'm not saying employee's don't play any roll, but you get paid and comped tickets, thats your compensation for having to work, and be nice to guests. You don't like it, quit, I'm sure there are others that would love to have your job. Oh, and Papa... just out of curiosity how do you know those spots are merely former handicap spaces. I've only ever seen handicap cars parked there, and for the 5+ seasons I've been going to CB those spots have never had the signs taken down. I doubt the employee was trying to be rude, I probobly would have told you the same thing as a heads up so you didn't get towed without a warning. Did someone in managment clue you into their de-handicapping or are you just assuming that because of the nature of the sport no handicap spots are needed? adrian
the ski patrol running up and down the mountain before the lifts open is so much more maddening. though, in light of the need to pick our battles, i wont even test them on that one because those power mongers will never let go. this parking situation is something that ought to be improved. CB has a strong adaptive center and quite a few handicap spots on the same level as the welcome center. The handicap parking spots I am referring to were the ones that were in the first lot against the rocks. You see, the ramps don't meet the requirements for the 12:1 ramp slope required to make them accessible. Nor were they maintained in a safe condition. It was an easy thing to point out The signs were removed. Edited January 9, 2006 by Papasteeze
Ski
OMG, congrats on getting handicapped spots removed---I guess. I don't think I've ever heard of a human being lobbying management to remove HC spots for any reason, no matter how 'noble'. I can almost hear that conversation: "For their own safety, you need to pull out those signs and let me park my Hummer there." Rob, are you Satan? I'm only half kidding. I don't think I've ever heard of a human being lobbying management to remove HC spots for any reason, no matter how 'noble'. ADA compliance in public places is serious business, I deal with the regulations on a regular basis. Without writing a book - there was a series of events. "CB is going to work on our image and become more customer friendly" "Gripes from some regulars who make runs in the morning and leave by 10am or so" "My own surprise and observation 1/2 hour before the lifts open with the full first lot" Ranger quote - "those HC signs were supposed to be taken down after CBeach closed" -- My reply "It's funny to see those spots in an area that does not have ADA compliant ramps within a reasonable distance, it's no wonder that very few of those spots are used" I was riding on a lift with one Ranger and what looked to be 2 long time Ski Patrol guys. They were speechless after that comment.. Ironically or coincidently some of handicap signs were taken down that night. I noticed first thing the next morning, then that night, as I was leaving, I was told I could not park there by a CB employee. Hence this thread.... Just trying to help CB be more friendly by providing the required amount of spaces ADA compliant and open up the closest parking lots to the slopes for paying customers. BTW - Whitetail Saturday has their employees parking well away. I was the second vehicle in the lot at 7:30 am. As we walked up, everyone greeted us with a smile and a hello! While it got crowded as could be later on, I got a warm and fuzzy feeling while there from the friendliness of the staff! OOOPS wrote a book. Ski
Sorry, I couldn't bring myself to read what was surely a reasonable explanation that didn't involve building ADA compliant ramps instead of taking down the signs and putting a Hummer there. There is no way the topography would allow for a compliant ramp from that parking lot up to the drop off area without traversing the gabion retaining wall for about 250' in my estimation. That would be major work. I'll have to take more notice on where the handicap spots are in relation to other ski areas. Here again. Word has it, that there were a lot of spaces added due to the Camel Beach season that had not got taken down before the start of the ski season. I don't know that for a fact. skimom
Does CB provide shuttle service to North Ridge? They used to have an hourly shuttle taking skiers from the garbage area to the lodge. Since homeowners need to drive and park in the garbage area, and the shuttle only made one trip an hour, it was worse than useless. Iceman forgot his pass one day, and it took him two hours to get it. They stopped the shuttle since it was underutilized... hmmm, I wonder why? Papasteeze
If anyone wants to race me then......... You must register at Nastar, it is free - http://www.nastar.com/index.jsp?pagename=register Then select PASR as your club team and Camelback as your Resort Team - and then and only then, on a timed gated course (Nastar) My terms for those who feel the need to challenge and beat me - otherwise. There is no point in challenging me to anything else. Nastar is the only type of program I will race this season. I should be at BC Wednesday night.
