bigdaddyk Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 I've been thinking about getting a helmet for sking. Is there anything specific I should look for, such as features, brands, etc, or are they all about the same? Quote
nick malozzi Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 make sure it has a strap to hold onto your goggles in case you fall. because if they pop off you will never know. go for comfort and make sure it has some sort of way to keep your ears warm. if you are an music person check out the ones with the built in headphones. adrian Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 the leedom prophet looks great. on a skier, that is. Quote
mbike-ski Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 My big issue was ventilation, I need to keep cool as much as i need to be warm. the Giro fuse seemed to have the most vents that can be opened/closed easliy and its really light, also the ear flaps come off easily Quote
skifreak Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 A helmet with vents that you can adjust. Also one that is very lightweight and that you don't even know you are wearing. Helmets can be expensive, I paid $80 for mine with a coupon. Without my coupon it was $130. Quote
Philpug Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 After almost 30 years of skiing without one, i finally gave in last year. All of my concerns: heat, visability, hearing and weight were dismissed when I tried a Gir o Fuse. I love it and I don't even know I am wearing it. Give it a shot. Quote
Glenn Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 All of my concerns: heat, visability, hearing and weight Man, my only concern was how goofy I would look. Quote
tretiak Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Man, my only concern was how goofy I would look. id take looking goofy over being a veggie for the rest of my life Quote
Glenn Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) id take looking goofy over being a veggie for the rest of my life Definitely, I wear a helmet always. Everyone once in a while I'm real glad I'm wearing it. Just last week at whiteface I randomly caught a heel edge on a mogul on a black and got the back of my head whipped into the snow. I got up a little shaken and embarrassed. Without a helmet I'm pretty sure my head would have been ringing. Edited January 2, 2006 by dthmtluncrn Quote
Ski4Food Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 I never go out without my helmet! It's one of the most important things I own! It's saved my brain quite a few times. Giro is the best out there! Try the Giro Nine or G10 and get it with the Audio Series. Skiing to music is like being in a ski movie on every run. I prefer the Giro Nine MX or the G10 MX, I do a lot of tree skiing and the visor keeps the snow out of my goggles. It also looks pretty cool too! Goodluck! PM me if you have any further questions! Stevo Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Man, my only concern was how goofy I would look. If you don't want to look like you have a pumpkin on your head, look into a pro-tec B2. They are the best helmets, and the least-goofy looking helmets. (in my opinion.) My scotty arnold B2 was like 75- but that's because it comes with the special audio earflaps. I was reluctant to get one, but after a serious concussion over the summer, i gave in. Quote
tretiak Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 ye aa friend of mine was lucky he was wearing his helment yesterday because he would have had a cuncussion after he fell trying to 270 off the up flat rail at blue, caught heelside adn just smacked his head off the ground Quote
