skimom Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 ASRA has use of SWIX radar gun for racers who want to see how fast they can beeline. Of the PASR folks, ski999 is the only one who dared to test the system. He was clocked in at a blistering 53 mph. 53 mph! Way to go 999... Quote
Glenn Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 I would have given it a go... why not??? Quote
skidude Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 I would have given it a go... why not??? me too...just at the bottom of cliffy Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Way to go '999, you must've been flying.... They should set up a gun at the bottom of WL Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 What do you guys think would be the fastest trail in PA to do radar gun testing. It would be cool if a few of us chipped in for our own radar gun. We could practice on ski freaks whales. Forumdestroyer can do burn-outs in gues grams cruiser, I'll freestyle, bonfire and Papasteeze in bonfire jacket with gold nastar medal, me with my bronze medal, and lots of fun. I think you could carry some serious speed off of WL, much faster then I can get going on Razors Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Is there a run-out or would it require a quick hockey stop or else end up in Scranton? Runout at Montage's North Face? No. You'll be in the snowmaking pond if you don't stop Quote
Glenn Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I think you could carry some serious speed off of WL, much faster then I can get going on Razors I think we got more speed bombing the cruiser on the skiers far right at montage than zaldon got bombing down WL. Duration is just as important as pitch. My money's on montage though, maybe if you bombed from the top, of the mountain, and pumped through the headwalls of cannonball thats the fastest... Quote
skidude Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Looks like you can get them for under $100 Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 WL is impossble to tuck right now with the mogula all over it and 2 hittable 4 foot cliffs on it. But Boomer is a great speed spot, but that has bumps on it to. Quote
skimom Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Looks like you can get them for under $100 e-bay? If we all pitched in a few dollars, PASR could get one of it's own - think of how much fun we could have with it. Quote
skifreak Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Looks like you can get them for under $100 Last week or so Radio Shack had one in their flyer for $99. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 My friend has one, his dad used to use it to clock his pitches in baseball...we've used it before on the highway, it's amazing how many people have radar detectors...really opens the road up Quote
skimom Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Atomic and Freak, are you talking about a radar detector or a radar gun? Quote
skifreak Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I'm talking about a radar gun, and I think Jeff is as well. They are selling them at Radio Shack for $99 for people clocking baseball pitches. But why not use it for clocking skiers Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Atomic and Freak, are you talking about a radar detector or a radar gun? I'm talking about a gun...if you take a radar gun on the highway, you should see all the cars dart over into the right lane with their brakes on, especially on 78 Quote
Ski Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 It crossed my mind that Doug should be doing this while I was the start area. I think Upper to Lower Fast Track would be the most fun to tuck...but a groomed WL might be fastest. They have to remove the cones at the lift and that compression at the bottom of the headwall might take out a lot of people. We should try it.... Quote
skifreak Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Now the snowgods are really going to punish us. He mentioned g**f Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Now the snowgods are really going to punish us. He mentioned g**f my golf clubs are still in the back of my car Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Ski999 was definitely flying... We should definitely get a gun... if every member on the site pitched in a quarter we could have one... just something to mull over... Quote
skimom Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Cool, I'll have to get clocked sometime. Doug, we all thought of you when ski999 did this. You could really excel ... Quote
Papasteeze Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 and Papasteeze in bonfire jacket with gold nastar medal, me with my bronze medal, and lots of fun. I am a big sissy to straight line speed. I still haven't found the right brain bucket for my pin head, so unless I wear ear plugs, the wind whistling in my ears and high rates of speed freaks me out. I would like to know how fast I am going though. Quote
skifreak Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 my golf clubs are still in the back of my car Last January it was the g**f shoes, this January its the g**f clubs. Take them out like you did last year and then the weather will be below normal into March. Quote
zaldon Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 id be willing to take a few runs past a radar Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Last January it was the g**f shoes, this January its the g**f clubs. Take them out like you did last year and then the weather will be below normal into March. My bathing suit is in the trunk, too Quote
