Bode was DQ'd in today's slalom portion on the Supercombined at Wengen, after straddling a gate on the lower part of the course. Austrian Benjamin Raich won the race, increasing his lead over Miller in the Overall World Cup standings to 217 points. Bode drops into a tie for third in those standings.

Seems like Bode had the race all but locked up, but his ski passed directly over the flattened gate...

Bummer.

217 points...Shiooot...thats like a first and 2nds he needs to get to catch up...

Focus more on skiing than other things maybe?

We will have to see where he is at the end of the season.

Bode now has the distinction of being one of those people whose existance doesn't matter to me, other than the fact that he's just one more person between me and the olympics, lol. Forget Bode, how about that Ted Lighety (did I spell that right?). And Schlopy. Schlopy is hardcore.

Schopy seems pretty classy. And it also seems like Bode really hurt his feelings when he announced the rest of the team was lame for going along with the drug testing. Bode and Schlopy were roomates last year, before Bode bought the bus. Now Bode never trains with the technical team and Schlopy says he hasn't even spoken to Bode in over a year.

Consider this, though: it's just a matter of hours before Bode wakes up and skis in one of the most historic races of the season...imagine the incredible pressure, as Raich has opened a big lead and Bode hasn't had a win since leaving American snow this year.

Bode will have bib #27 tomorrow...he'll be in the start house right behind Hermann Maier. Rahlves and all of the other favorites will already be down in the finish area.

The course will have some ruts and will have slowed just a little, but Bode will have excellent course reports to work with.

It's still dark in Wengen, Switzerland, but the alpenglow has begun and course workers are already making their way toward the slopes...

Bode didn't party last night. He knows this is his shot at getting back on top of the world.

I definitely think we're going to see a really big and important race sometime soon... I don't think we'll see it out of Bode though. There are definitely other reasons for americans to cheer. I think its time to embrace the others.

The winner of the 76th running of the Lauberhorn is Daron Rahlves.

I'm not a racer, so there a nuances I can miss, but I thought Daron Rahlves run was spectacular, the very best downhill I've seen all season.

It's a course that favors people like Walchhofer or Fritz Strobl...guys that are great gliders. But Rahlves nailed the SG-like turns and carried his speed through the long flats, then was by far the best through the final S turns before the finish. The 2:30 course is a leg burner and by far the longest on the WC circuit. Bode looked dead and was standing up toward the end; he appeared totally out of shape.

Bode said an odd thing at the finish: he 'just didn't feel commited to winning' right now. In Sunday's slalom, he finished 8th, btw. He was 30th after the first run and just barely qualified for the second run. His 2nd run time was the fastest of the day. He's an absolute head-case right now.
