Ski Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) I thought this was mildly interesting...I took a few runs on my rock skis, but the North Face was really nice today and it was absolutely empty, so I grabbed my SG skis. Boomer had one slot today to try my GPS watch and my 191's (my 193's are in a dumpster someplace), although there was a gnarly cross rut toward the bottom of the headwall that kept trying to kill me. So I slipped it once, then took one run standing up (48mph). I didn't drop my jacket, so it sorta felt like the wind wanted to rip it off---maybe an extra 4 or 5mph without a coat? Maybe more. The surface was crusty and fast. I skated maybe four times, then dropped into a tuck. I'm not sure if top speed was toward the bottom of the headwall, or when you hit the runout. I used LF7 wax and PTFE for runs 2, 3, and 4. So without a coat and without that one damn cross rut, I bet you could do 75mph on Boomer. Maybe next week. Run 1: 48mph Run 2: 61mph Run 3: I got yelled at. Run 4: 64mph Edited February 5, 2006 by ski999 Quote
Glenn Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Awsome post keep us updated on the top speed! Quote
Zonked Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Run 1: 48mph Run 2: 61mph Run 4: 64mph I hit all those speeds today.. except I was driving our new BMW Quote
skifreak Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Way to go '999. You should have kept going on your 3rd run, the guy never would have caught you. Quote

Ski Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 A yellow jacket. One guy has it in for me from last year. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 A yellow jacket. One guy has it in for me from last year. I'm ready for this weekend...three fun races Quote
Ski Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 Well, two out of three will be fun for me. Quote
VTmark Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 thats insane fast. next time try it in a speed suit and tuck it. bet you get close to 80 with that. Quote
Schif Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Thats absoulutely sick, Congrats ski. I wonder what the numbers would be for a groomed lightning. Quote
Ski Posted February 6, 2006 Author Report Posted February 6, 2006 Hey, thanks, but I wasn't posting for props...I bought the gps watch just to answer the question 'how fast can you ski certain slopes' in general. That's why I was hesitant to add fluoro, although I did leave my coat on. IDK about WL...the headwall is pretty short so you need to use the run-in to reach max speed, so you'd need a spotter. The compression would be like squating 1000lbs, I imagine. I think Doug would be a good crash test dummy for WL. Quote
adrian Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 the run out isnt long, but thats not what you need to worry about. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I don't think I'd be comfortable doing a hockey stop at 69 miles per hour. I dont no if i have ever gotten up to 69mph on WL, but maybe 55 or so and i have more then enough room to stop. Quote
xNick11 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 lightning was really fast yesterday that the 1 run i took on it..it was also pure ice..i came outta the park 3 times yesterday so i only skied lightning and cannoball..and of course the park. Quote
adrian Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I don't think I'd be comfortable doing a hockey stop at 69 miles per hour. the real problem is the abrupt transision and finding the right spot to return to earth. you have the real estate to make a couple checks. Quote
