sibhusky Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 Anyone thinking of coming out here might want to do it during the Telemark Nationals: 2006 National Telemark Championships March 17, 18 and 19th 2006 The Big Mountain Resort and the United States Telemark Ski Association are proud to announce the National Telemark Ski Racing Championships will be back at the Big Mountain Resort in Whitefish, Montana this March 17, 18 and 19th. Members of the US National Telemark Team will be racing as well as other athletes that are racing to accumulate points for placement on next years team. This race will also have a Citizens Cup run concurrently for other Telemark skiers that want to see how they measure up to these world class athletes. The US National Telemark Team will be coming from the FIS Telemark World Cup Finals held the week before in Sandpoint, ID at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. Many racers from other countries are expected to stay and attend this event. The Big Mountain Resort is world renown in the Telemark racing community for its ability to put on a challenging and quality event. RACE SCHEDULE FRIDAY MARCH 17 BIG SKY BREWING GIANT SLALOM: Racing around gates (similar to alpine GS) using the Telemark turn as you go down the course, 1 jump is included. Racers will be judged as they pass through the gates and on the jump for both the distance of their jump and their landing. 2 runs. KARHU TWILIGHT DUAL SLALOM: Racers will go head to head down slalom courses that are laid out next to each other. They must perform the elements of the Telemark turn around each gate. 2 runs. SATURDAY MARCH 18 BIG MOUNTAIN SPRINT CLASSIC: Racers will go down a course that starts with GS gates that will be judged for the elements of the Telemark turn. There will be a jump where they will be judged for distance and style of landing. There will also be a high banked 360` turn followed by a section that the racers will have to skate along to keep up their speed as they enter the final gates. 2 runs. SUNDAY MARCH 19 KARBON CLASSIC: This is the signature event of Telemark racing incorporating the techniques of alpine racers going at high speeds through GS gates, utilizing the skills of freestyle skiers as they fly over jumps and other obstacles and exhibiting the endurance of Nordic racers as they skate along sections of the race course that will be uphill. 1 long run.
