bigdaddyk
I was looking at the view from the top of Elk and was trying to figure out what mountains are north of Elk. Are those the Catskills or Adorandaks that are visible in the far distance? I know Elk is in the Endless Mountains. Dan-
the Closest Mountain i can think of north of Elk would be Hunter, which is in the Catskill mountains. The adorondaks are in Northern NY, which are home to mountains like Gore and Whiteface.
sibhusky
I think he's talking about MOUNTAINS, not ski areas.
volklyokel
From Elk, looking north, between the local hills of East Mtn and Sugarloaf Mtn, you'd be seeing the lumps and bumps related to the southwestern edge of the Catskills, which pick-up around the PA/NY border, not too far from Binghamton. RidgeRacer
I believe Elk faces Northeast looking into Wayne Co. I always thought one of the mountains in the nearby distacnce was Mt. Ararat in Wayne Co. I could be wrong though. Edited March 3, 2006 by PA Ridge Racer
skierdaddy
The mountains visible to the northeast are as follows. Closet is Mount Ararat and Sugarloaf Mtn on the Susquehanna, Wayne County border. On Clear days you can see the beginnings of the Castskill range in NY. A beautiful view...You cannot see as far as Hunter Mtn etc..Hunter is in the northern Catskills..Greek Peek is not visible, too far north of Binghamton...
