AtomicSkier Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 That is amazing! Its amazing how long snow can last Quote

AtomicSkier Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I'm psyched...just got done with my assignments and am about to start loading my gear. snap some good pictures! i would've went along man, but this weekend is just too perfect to pass up on the golf Quote
slickkeddie Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 At $15 on Friday, that looks like a good deal. At full price $33, I don't know. Is Hunter still charging full price? I'd think that if I'd travel that far, Hunter would be a better deal, unless maybe too crowded, but hey, a big part of the experience this time of year is hanging out, not just the skiing. Quote
Ski Posted April 17, 2004 Author Report Posted April 17, 2004 Hey, Slick, Belleayre is always a better deal than Hunna, unless you like the feeling of being surrounded by Starter Jackets, fist fights, and 30,000 rude people. And the Snowmaking Capital of the World is CLOSED. Quote
sibhusky Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 And the Snowmaking Capital of the World is CLOSED. I guess they were too cheap to "bank" enough snow to push on the trails for later. Quote
Ski Posted April 17, 2004 Author Report Posted April 17, 2004 (edited) I didn't have any place to carry a camera, just a T-shirt and powder pants. We were making first tracks down freshly groomed diamonds and it was a blast until it got up over 70 degrees. Some pretty epic Eastern spring skiing. Amazing to watch 'Dude busting it on Ebay used rental 150's. Â Â Â Edited April 17, 2004 by ski999 Quote
AtomicSkier Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 thats awesome! was it slushy from the start? Quote
Ski Posted April 17, 2004 Author Report Posted April 17, 2004 The groomed slopes were nice from opening until about 10:30. Frozen, then a layer of corn that you could carve. The temps soared and it was still okay until you hit the big patched of slush and you had to skim through some spots near the lifts. It was amazing how much snow they had. Edge to edge on most slopes and the terrain park looked mid-winter. Pretty cool watching a guy land a 720 on skis off of a big-ass kicker. We had planned on a last run, but found a diamond that was steep and smooth and decided to do another lap down it. Odd though that it was 70-something and someone had started the big fireplaces in the lodge. Quote
sibhusky Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Odd though that it was 70-something and someone had started the big fireplaces in the lodge. They did that when we were at Red Lodge, too. The guy doing it even said how stupid it was. Quote
Ski Posted April 18, 2004 Author Report Posted April 18, 2004 I guess it's just some employee's daily chore; empty the garbage, line up the tables, start the fire... Quote
AtomicSkier Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I guess it's just some employee's daily chore; empty the garbage, line up the tables, start the fire... maybe they want it to look like its winter, but feel like your in the Congo? Quote
skigurl Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 skidude said it was pretty nice considering it was April, but as soon as they got in the car they turned the AC on Quote
slickkeddie Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I can remember often playing on the snow in spring when the temps were 60's, 70's, even the 80's once. And this was locally, in the Catskills and New England. I don't know if the climate is changing that radically or not. Maybe it's more of a trend that all the ski areas just don't stay open as long as they used to. Quote
skidude Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Some pretty epic Eastern spring skiing. Amazing to watch 'Dude busting it on Ebay used rental 150's. It was pretty sweet watching you do the bumps in your 190s...Skis on 2 different bumps and you in the middle. Â Anyway it was a good day until it got really warm and all slushy. Pretty good coverage...Better than Hunta 2 weeks ago Quote
skidude Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 It looks like they closed for the season today...TOo bad....But you can still hike for your turns I guess. Quote
Ski Posted April 18, 2004 Author Report Posted April 18, 2004 Nothing turns you into a spaz faster than long race skis in moguls. And lemme tell ya 'Dude, you're mom is sooo much cooler than mine. There just aren't that many moms I know of that when you ask them if they want to do 'that black diamond bump run, with rocks down the side' and they answer, "Yeah, sure, why not?" Quote
skidude Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 It must be the rocks down the side that made her do it...because she usually doesn't like da bumps. Quote
sibhusky Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 ski999, women just can't turn you down. Quote
Ski Posted April 18, 2004 Author Report Posted April 18, 2004 I just noticed they closed for the season. I was going to head back up tomorrow. Bummer. I guess they figured that unless they could make it to next weekend, they weren't going to bother with the week. Today's pic: Quote
skidude Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Go up and Hike for your turns..>Great snow still. Quote
Ski Posted April 18, 2004 Author Report Posted April 18, 2004 We hiked our hill today for this last patch. Then we went down to the beach and built some sand castles. Oh, well... Quote
