ColoradoHigh Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 I just checked out Blue's site, and heres what it said: 06-07 EXPANSION PLANS In time for the 06-07 season, we expect to replace the Challenge double chairlift with a 6 PERSON HIGH SPEED DETACHABLE CHAIRLIFT. We will continue to work on adding an ADDITIONAL TRAIL located between Razors Edge and Paradise. Plans have been started for a NEW VALLEY LODGE, replacing our current valley lodge facility. The bottom two floors would house our skiing/snowboarding/tubing and activities such as ticket sales, ski/snowboard rentals, food services and a lounge/bar area. The upper three floors would be laid out in "one quarter share" CONDOMINIUM LIVING available for rent or sale. MORE INFORMATIO TO FOLLOW. 6 person high speed detachable lift? HOLY CRAPAMOLI! I am so excited for next year. New Valley lodge, with 3 floors. The thing about the 6 person high speed lift, I think that that will be the only one in PA! Quote
snownskateguy Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 hah yep i was just on their website and was coming here to tell yall but ya beat me to it!!! hehehe. Quote
Papasteeze Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 The thing about the 6 person high speed lift, I think that that will be the only one in PA! Blue already has enough straight down the mountain fall line trails. woooo hoooo lets see if we can increase the people per sqaure foot on the slopes. I hope they open several more trails to deal with the increased up hill capacity. Quote
Finndog Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 You make a good point but won't the vast majority of users of that chair be for the park? I would think that the 6 pack may be good for you guys but I don't think it will make much of a difference for the rest of us. Is there really any practical way to access that lift from any other run other than the half-pipe run???? Quote
Justo8484 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 you will be able to get to the 6 pack from pretty much every run, just the same way you can get to the quad from pretty much every run. yeah, it will be nice for those of us who ride park, but its only going to make the slopes that much more crowded, which i dont want. Quote
toast21602 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 there is no need for a 6 pack. thats just rediculous. this is Blue mountain. not steamboat. there is a need for a new lift... but a 6 pack is a bit much. maybe since it will increase the capacity so much they will think about getting a park pass. sexkitten Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 OK, I may be about to put my foot in my mouth. Here goes... Don't you all think that 2 more skiers exiting the six pack and having to go right will make for more falls, aka more lift stoppages? Hopefully the new trail will begin to the left of the lift. Does anyone know? Quote
toast21602 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 the new trail is pretty much cut already.... Quote
sexkitten Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 the new trail is pretty much cut already.... I would proabably know that if I wasn't so busy looking for PASRers on the lift ride. Explain to me please where it will be. Quote
toast21602 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 right under the quad... not to be a dick... but are you blind? haha Quote
Justo8484 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 it will run directly beneath the quad, it shoots off the left side of paradise right near the top. its going to be a blue square, so says the posters at the mountain. the 6 pack at stratton sucked, so hopefully blue's wont work out the same way, but i believe it will. i havent seen any info anywhere that actually says the new trail WILL be open next season, just that they are continuing to work on it, so dont get your hopes up. sexkitten Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 right under the quad... not to be a dick... but are you blind? haha Yes I am....dick. Haha. I know it's under the quad sillyhead, I just wanted you guys to draw me a map. Quote
Stevo Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Ever think that they may be advertising all of this to get feedback. Maybe to help them before they make a final decision. ...maybe not. I think a 6 pack is overkill. Another high speed quad would do fine. If they market this, it'll be nuts on the slopes. More and more people on saturdays and price increases. Like they were saying on another topic- about the brochures. Keep them ghetto- it'll keep some people away. I'll still be at blue next year, no matter what. Oh yeah, and park passes should definitely be considered next year, with more traffic off of the six pack being placed right in front of Sidewinder, it means more people who shouldn't be in there. Big boulder, as i noticed saturday, has a "no rental equipment allowed in terrain park" sign, at the top of Big Boulder park. This would even somewhat help. Blue needs to get with the program here. It's like buying a car without the insurance- they need to make these improvements, but make sure they can handle them in a smart way. just my 2 cents Quote

Stevo Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 i remember justo saying to someone that he would make the sign saying no rental in the terrain park Yeah, he should just make it, and we'll put it up when no one's looking Quote
Shadows Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Yeah, he should just make it, and we'll put it up when no one's looking lets just make a sign that says "park pass required" I'll stand up top at the entrance and hand out passes (that we also made) to people who seem worthy enough. if someone wants to get in that i dont think should, i say get lost Quote
Schif Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Big boulder, as i noticed saturday, has a "no rental equipment allowed in terrain park" sign, at the top of Big Boulder park. I really liked that about big boulder. And even the smaller park (that was out of control concidering what I'm used to) had a sign that limited beginner lift tickets in that park. You were at boulder saturday steveo? I was too, there were only 10 people there so i probobly saw you. Quote
adrian Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Keep them ghetto- it'll keep some people away montage has got this in spades. Quote
Shadows Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 (edited) i think 7 springs has one I agree, especially one right next to the quad. Did anyone ever think of putting it in place of the two main street doubles, or is it not long enough for a high speed lift. nvm, theyre replacing the double Edited March 14, 2006 by Shadows Quote
Justo8484 Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 ^ it seems like that would make more sense, that way you're spreading the crowds out over a larger area. i dont know if the lift would be long enough to be high speed though, which is why bear's quad isnt a high speed lift. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Yea, cause I just thought having a high speed 4 pack and a high speed 6 pack right next to each other is a little unnecssary The lifts can get insane on that quad... As for the main street lift...yes, they could easilly put in a HSDQ, as Camelback has one in their base area, and that's only 650 vertical feet, but i think those doubles should stay, it keeps that side semi empty and the snow conditions better..... I'd be nice to see a 6pack, that way i can ski later in the day and have trail traffic be the reason for leaving, rather then lift lines...so if i REALLY want to ski more, i can.... Quote
snorovr Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 My main worry is that all the pow will get tracked out much faster... Quote
AtomicSkier Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Isnt it 800 vertical ft no, the stevenson is 800, the sully is only 650 in the base area... Quote
trackbiker Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 there is no need for a 6 pack. thats just rediculous. this is Blue mountain. not steamboat. there is a need for a new lift... but a 6 pack is a bit much. A 6-Pack will increase skier traffic on that part of the mountain by +66%! Even with ONE new trail, it will be like skiing on the Schuylkill Express Way during rush hour on busy days. They'll have to keep a Medivac helicopter parked permanently on the pad with one hovering to take care of all the collisions. Make sure you wear your helmet and full body armor on busy days. Another HSQ would be better. Plus if you think boarders don't like riding a full quad, wait till they try to load&unload six novice boarders on a 6-Pack. And that's the lift the boarders will take because it's closer to the park. That will be stopped more than it is running on busy days. It won't affect me because I don't ski there on weekends or holidays. And they will only run the HSQ OR the 6-Pack during weekdays because the demand is not there for both. What a waste of money that could be better spent on A LOT better on more needed improvements. The lodge is a good idea. It will give better access to beginners to use the beginner triple area instead of going to the upper lodge and then falling all over Burma Road and stopping the two chairs by Main Street. FYI: High Speed lifts provide no more capacity than fixed grip lifts when they are operating at capacity on busy days. They both have the same uphill capacity/hour. They are great when there is no lift line because you can do some quick laps. But when there is no lift line they won't be running both lifts anyway. My take on the 6-Pack is that it is 100% a marketing thing. They don't need it. They just want to be able to say that they have the most vertical (yeah, they also have the most flat runout! )and a 6-Pack! I can hear the commercials on the radio already. "Ski Blue Mt.!.....the most vertical and THE ONLY 6-PACK IN EASTERN PA! What it should say is, "The most CROWDED slopes in eastern PA!...You thought Camelback was bad on weekends! You haven't seen ANYTHING yet! My main worry is that all the pow will get tracked out much faster... No need to worry, with 66% more skiers on the trails, it definitely will get tracked out much quicker! Quote
