Schif Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 What do you guys think would be the best NY mountian to go to next saturday? I'm looking at a trip and I'm taking into concideration Price/trails open/conditon of snow. Quote
Ski Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 The Catskills will be in spring condition...lots of snow and good coverage, but slushy by noon. I just got off the phone with 'Dude, who was racing yesterday at Whiteface and Gore this morning...course conditions were really tough and they had to drop a lot of salt (which hardens the surface). He's still on the road but should have a good first hand account for Upstate NY a little later tonight... Quote
skimom Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Hey, Beachie: Thanks to you, I went to Windham yesterday - the ski free went smoothly - no hassle about getting a ticket. Most of their runs are open, but it's rock ski time - most runs have brown spots across at one point or another. It was frozen wet-pack early, then mushy later. To Hunter today, also for their ski free day - they have better cover - no need for rock skis, except on a few trails where it's obvious. It looks like they got snow for some of this rain storm - and I think they are still blowing on some trails. If cost is no object - I'd go there. Both places have high speed quads, and the lines were short at both. Have fun... 'Mum Quote
