Tyler Posted May 7, 2006 Report Share Posted May 7, 2006 my dad is thinking about buying a cabin up in potter county mainly for hunting, but about 5 minutes away is denton ski resort...i checked out the website and it doesnt look terrible...they say they have a terrain park and also the steepest slope around?? 66 degrees?? anybody been there....if we get the cabin i will definetly go check it out....whats it like? i heard its never crowded and i think its bigger than bear creek vertical drop wise and trail wise...o yeah i heard they get about 100 inches of natural snow a year...not bad Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ski4Food Posted May 7, 2006 Report Share Posted May 7, 2006 I skied at denton a bunch of time in college. It's a pretty fun mountain to ski a few times a year. I'm used to larger NY mountains, so Denton seemed small to me, but I would say you're about right saying it's a little larger than bear. On a good snow year it can be epic. They may not have the steepest in the east, but it's probably the steepest in PA. They have a super steep bump run that's a lot of fun, and then a run that's the same pitch but with trees. So on a good snow year that run can be epic. It's usually never crowded, the lifts are slow, and the mountain is somewhat outdated, but prices are cheap, and the whole skiing experience is much like that of 30 years ago. The park isn't bad, it needs work, but it's getting better every year, and there's a bunch of guys down there who can really rip. Overall it's a fun place to ski a few times a year, and a nice challenge on a good snow year. Potter county on the other hand is like a scene from deliverance. Leaving her CAT team jacket at home didn't help either, nor did the cold garage for food. Then the race organizers lost my driver's license. skidude Posted May 12, 2006 Report Share Posted May 12, 2006 We do claim on the website that we have the steepest, and that is going to be updated to one of the steepest. When the resort was orginially built The Army core of Engineers developed the slope and at that time it was the steepest in the east. However, since then Stowe and Kilington both have slopes that compare to this slope. The 66 degree is in the first 1/4 of the slope and bottom 1/4 of slope the middle section does come out from the 66 degree. We do get a lot of questions about this, my best advice is this winter come out and ski it, or come this summer and mountain bike our hill and you can look at the slope for yourself. Please note you won't be able to go over it on your mountain bike. I hope this helps, we have tried to locate the plans the engineers made that gave the factual information but have not come up with it. Shawn I sent them an email, and thats what I got back. There is a full lodge, with tables and food, but the race department had taken over the garage near the race slope and held a barbeque. We rented a cabin on their property for the weekend. It slept either six or eight people and was just $100/night midwinter. Runs are short, but the pitch is steep. A ton of racers crashed out of the slalom. Most weren't used to anything that steep. It's steepest run is steeper than anything else in PA or Greek Peak, for that matter. The CAT coaches had hoped to hold annual early season camps there and rent the bunkhouse, but they never follwed through. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
