Well.............. Here is some news!!!!!!!!!!!

We have agreed to a deal with former US Ski Team member and Nastar national pacesetter, A.J. Kitt, to be a part of our newly created racing program. A.J. will come aboard as the team director, providing training for the coaches, one dry-land training session pre-season for the athletes and two in season camps and training clinics for the coaches and athletes involved in the Bear Creek program.

The primary focus of the program will be junior development for participants in the 5 to 14 age range. While this is not set in stone it seems to be the initial direction everyone is leaning.

After the structure of the program is in place and availability of the racing trail has been determined, we will be interested in considering requests by outside organizations to rent hill space for training.

The successful Nastar program will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with a possible expansion to Sunday afternoons.

As for the structure, training times, ages and other specifics, we hope to have that information nailed down by mid to late August.

Where did that come from? Nothing like a figure head to get people to bite.

AJ is from Greece, NY, and was a member of the Swain Race Team. He still goes back to Swain, where they have a junior race series named after him. AJ's name isn't all that well known outside of NASTAR these days, but he's an absolute top flight coach and works great with kids.

AJ's best year was in '92, when he finished 3rd in the World Cup downhill standings, behind Heinzer and Mahrer.

It's definitely more 'real' than Shawnee's claim Jean-Claude Killy founding their ski school...how much more 'real' remains to be seen, but if BC's willing to pay, AJ would do a lot for them.

I think it is a great move, certainly a great potential motivator for the kids who are in the program. Every time I have seen him he has a huge smile on his face, he seems to truly enjoy supporting the kids.
