skifreak Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I saw this in The Morning Call today. It was a nice short article about the park improvements and some other stuff about JFBB. http://www.mcall.com/news/local/lehighton/...allehighton-hed Quote
meggles Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 oh sick thanks for finding that Quote
Papasteeze Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Yes.... They mentioned skiers first! Officials at the resorts said the changes were inevitable. Older downhill skiers are being replaced by young freestyle skiers and snowboarders who want to do tricks, particularly in places such as the Poconos that have small vertical drops compared to New England and Western slopes. ''Fortunately or unfortunately, that's the future. People want excitement,'' said Michael Cloeren, public relations director of the ski areas, which are owned by Peak Resorts. Quote
swdorsey Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 "Cloeren stressed downhill skiers will still be able to ski at Big Boulder, which has 12 slopes on 60 acres of land, saying trails with park features will be wide enough to accommodate both traditional and freestyle enthusiasts." Worst quote ever someone needs to kill that guy for saying that. hes sdvocating newbs in the parks who arent going to go off features. otherwise that is awesome but i cant believe he said that Quote

Heather-Big Boulder Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 JFBB encourages both skiers and snowboarders to always ride at their ability level whether it be in the park or on a slope. JFBB believes the "Smart Style" message along with existing safety messages; will help to heighten the sense of education and awareness about the proper use of terrain parks in a way that is not hard to deliver, or for that matter to digest. The more people we can educate and get involved to help to spread the knowledge, the better! There are three main messages that are associated with Smart Style: LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area. EASY STYLE IT Start small and work your way up. (Inverted aerials not recommended). RESPECT GETS RESPECT From the lift line through the park. Quote
Papasteeze Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 It's a PR announcement guys..... They need to take that position to keep all the people who have been going to BB for 50 years off thier backs.. OR BB has a plan to teach the uneducated downhillers in the park when a confrontation occurs. Somehow, I think the "i bought a ticket so I can ski this trail" will over ride respect to people in the parks. It's not a good idea to announce and advocate park trails to be open to everyone, especially when there is so much push for "park passes". BB - PARK PASSES! what you will hear 07/08 if you openly encourage park trails for downhill freeskiing. Quote
jordan Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I liked the "No rental equiptment allowed on the BB terrain park" sign from last year. that needs to come back I also dont understand how park features are going to be on 50% of their terrain if the parks are only on BB and edelweiss Quote
meggles Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) of course its ok if you suck at park (i know i do) or you're just learning or whatever, but i mean if theres people teaching their kids how to ski on the park slopes (which i know happens already but now you're encouraging it and it might happen more) its going to be extremely dangerous for everyone. but im sure it'll all work itself out cant wait to see the improvements! Heather-Big Boulder Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 JFBB is not encouraging downhill skiing in the terrain parks and that is why I placed the response of using the Smart Style messages. JFBB encourages proper use of the terrain parks. There will still be a sign stating no rental equipment on the BB Terrain Park. Everything will become clearer as JFBB moves forward with all the changes it is implenting this year. Check jfbb site daily to see what is going on-updates will be posted there first. Shawn and Julian are here and working hard to get everything rolling for this upcoming season stay tuned in. Quote

The only person worthy for his 133cm LINE ghettoblasters and that is Jackie. I hate to see them go (they were his first twin) however it would be nice to see someone use them that would appreciate them. Its up to nips, though Heather, Thanks for the clarification! Quote
swdorsey Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) Manager "stressed downhill skiers will still be able to ski at Big Boulder saying trails with park features will be wide enough to accommodate both traditional and freestyle enthusiasts. - in a press release JFBB is not encouraging downhill skiing in the terrain parks -on PASR What is going on here? You cant please everyone so either say that you want to keep traditional skiers out or in but dont say both a day apart or your gonna piss off alot of people who are expexting a good park or expecting a legit mountain to ski on. Make a statement and stick to it please, and get all teh representatives at your mountain on the same page. You already advocated in a press release that you want people who are not hitting features in the park so posting on this site negating it is doing nothing. All the beginners who read that article are still gonna show up and go into the park because you told them to. You are breaking smart style message #1 if you dont belong in teh park dont enter and to be honest most traditional riders have no concept of park rules and regulations anyway. Dont beat around the bush with stuff and say what you are going to do. Im sorry but it needed to be said. Edited September 19, 2006 by swdorsey Quote
method9455 Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 I'm going to laugh when after $2 million dollars of terrain park and personell improvements, the terrain park will be destroyed by a billion people using the ramps to rails as mini jumps, causing it to be super shitty, becuase they don't want it to be closed (by park pass) to everyone else. Good job. Quote
meggles Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 ^seriously. caant you let us try to be happy?! haha jk but seriously its like that already so thats not gonna be surprising on any level. for me anyway. Quote
bigdaddyk Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 she rents from JFBB each time? alot of people rent from shops for the season, they would probably allow those I think the rental ban is because a lot of people using rentals are inexperienced, although there are still experienced people who get season rentals. Quote
method9455 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Yea and after working in a shop for a year you should see what people do to rentals if they try the park, we had garbage cans of skis with blown out edges, cracked snowboards etc. When I was like 12 I was on rental skis and I broke 3 pairs in the park so I see why the mountain might not want them trashing their rentals. I believe the ban applies just to JFBB rentals, not the fact that you are renting in general becuase my shop rents out twin tips skis from Line and then some lower end Burton boards for park and those are for kids who are going to trash them in a park. Quote
bigdaddyk Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 They turned Merry Widow into a park, so they don't really have much choice than to let regular skiers into the parks, since it would now limit the amount of trails and they would hurt themselves in ticket sales. I don't see how Merry Widow would be a good trail for a park. Quote
Papasteeze Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 naaaaa.... I think park is exploding, a mountain that has so much terrain dedicated to park is going to increase ticket sales. Quote

Couldn't agree more for the mountains around us (Eastern seaboard). As I've mentioned before. Bear Creek seems to be one of the biggest factors in Blue investing so much into their parks in the last two years. It will be really fun to see what kind of influence Park Logic may have on our immediate area. Quote

I wonder what would happen if one mountain went 100% park, sort of like Snowpark in NZ. Do you think everyone would/want to migrate there? Quote
method9455 Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Not only is park popular, you are more likely to get more repeats out of it. Park rats don't get bored just becuase its 1,000 ft vert, or the snow is melting, or its a crappy winter. As people into free riding get older, they are more likely to spend there money to go north to hunter, or vermont, or west for more challenges. Thats probably why the park scene is getting more and more attention around here. Quote
bigdaddyk Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 (edited) The more I thought about it, turning other trails into parks helps add variety to the trails for us skiers who don't use the features. The approach mounds can also function as nice little jumps . Edited September 30, 2006 by bigdaddyk Quote
method9455 Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 your cool, i won't respond to that here but do it in a park and you'll get a differant reaction Quote
