skidude Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Jeff, you know Volkl makes the sickest GS ski. I like there SL ski, but its not great. Never skied there speed skis. From everything I have heard, atomic makes fast speed skis, but there GS skis blowwwwwwwww. I bet if WC peeps were only skiing SL/GS they wouldn't be on atomic...They would hit up Volkl... Quote
Philpug Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 I ordered up some fatties yesterday. So my quiver is as follows: On Piste: Atomic Metron M11 B5/Neox 412 Off Piste (East):Blizzard Titan 9/Salomon S912 Off Piste (West): K2 Seth Vicious/Salomon S912 Rock Skis: Volkl 712 Pro/Salomon S900 Alium Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 At least Atomics don't snap in 1/2 How those Volkls doin? Go to the Montage Edit thread in the SNO forum, and watch the edit. At the end theres a pair of atomics in half. Quote
librider Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Ive seen 3 snwboards snap in my day. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted September 30, 2006 Author Report Posted September 30, 2006 Go to the Montage Edit thread in the SNO forum, and watch the edit. At the end theres a pair of atomics in half. I'm talking about REAL Atomics Quote
Ski Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 I bet if WC peeps were only skiing SL/GS they wouldn't be on atomic...They would hit up Volkl... And if I was rich I'd have an extra wife that would cook and run bubble baths for me. Quote

Weren't you bugging me last year to get on my P60s? and you wanted me to ride your silly atomics... I'm not as biased as most people think. If I felt Vokl made a superior product, then I would ski Vokls. But how am I ever going to know if I don't try. If MBenz made a better car then the equivilent BMW, I would buy it. Audi happens to have a VERY sick car out now, and thats caught my eye as an M replacement. I'm all about the best, not brand loyalty. Goto an ASRA race, where the people are pretty serious, and they don't have people paying for their crap, or their parents arent paying for them. What do you see most? Atomics. They're everywhere. Hell, I even saw a pair of my 16m GS:11s there. Quote

I on the other hand, have skied atomics and Volkls (along with many other brands), and can tell you that Volkl makes the sickest GS ski for east coast skiing (and probably west coast, but I don't ski out there)... snorovr Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 All depends on the model too. There are great models and models that are absolute crap within company lineups. Volkls Unlimited skis were probably the worst midfats that I have ever demoed. However, their race tiger stuff is awesome. Too bad Atomic doesn't come out for a lot of product demos where I ski. Ski Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 'Dude is just knowingly giving Jeff crap. If one ski were right for everyone, then there would only be one ski. Even if everyone raced with the exact same technique, including angles, alignment, and edging, people are all still physically different. So a different flex, sidecut, and things like torsional rigidity all match up to people in different ways. 'Dude will also tell you, when he's not giving Jeff crap, about the old Chad Fleisher saying that in ski racing "Confidence is King." So you're better off totally believing in your skis. I don't understand why these moderators can't just get along. Quote

Because Jeff is stupid Man I need to get on my GS skis again...I put another little coat of wax onto my skis to get them running even faster All I need now is some snow Quote
skidude Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 My Elans and Atomics are gouged up as ever but I used a gummy stone to get rid of the rust.... I'm going to be rocking my 195 X-screams more this season. I haven;t been on them in a year and a half..maybe even the 195 Rossi Viper C's which are skinnier than Kate Moss.. I was toying around with the idea of buying a pair of super G skis off ebay. If one came by cheap enough (almost any brand) I would think about scoping them up. You know those would be fun skis to fly around the mountain on for the first hour or two... But right now I'm getting a new pair of SL sticks ('07 Elans)... But my skis are all rust free, doug didn't you wax them before the end of the season? Quote

Ski Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Ya know, 'Dude, I was just kidding about you bad tempered mods. freeridintre: put a coat of wax on your edges and they won't rust. Quote

Glenn Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 If one ski were right for everyone, then there would only be one ski. I've heard this a few times but for the most part the various ski company fanboys (you know who you are) drown out this message. Confidence I suppose is one thing, but confidence that it's the best ski for YOU is different than confidence that it's the best ski ever is a different thing. Quote
Ski Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 I've heard this a few times but for the most part the various ski company fanboys (you know who you are) drown out this message. Confidence I suppose is one thing, but confidence that it's the best ski for YOU is different than confidence that it's the best ski ever is a different thing. There's so little that separates the top 10 guys on the World Cup, for instance, that absolutely everything has to line up for someone to win. Over the years, I've seen legends from Lasse Kjus to Bode struggle with not having 100% confidence in their skis. Imagine what it was like for Bode when he first switched to Rossi and his skis simply ejected in an early, shallow rut. Even Alberto Tomba fell apart for half a season and started blaming his skis. To this day, the American announcers on OLN constantly say that only the top couple of downhillers racing for each ski company have any shot at winning, since they get they best extruded material; that the base material alone accounts for a four or five second difference over a 2 minute course. I guess my point is just that it's not a bad idea to truly believe your ski company is the best. Each summer is the time to demo and question what's best, but by October, you have to believe there's no faster boards for you to get down the hill and everyone skiing on something else is at a disadvantage. Confidence starts with your gear and then works it's way to your head. Quote
