swdorsey
All i'm gonna say is that bb has made all of its announcements as to what its doing in its park already. Neither blue nor bear has yet. Until christmas it is really dumb to say that any park will "blow away" any other. im also gonna give props to andy lenart here. i know alot of you know who he is and more on here have no clue who im talking about. Andy is the park manager at bear and he welds some rediculasly good boxes and rails. Anyone who has seen the boxes he has built would be hard pressed to agrue with me here. All that I am saying is that people shouldnt throw out bold claims before christmas. Once parks open claim all ou want as to whos is better and you will have a sound arguement. Arguing over a jib variety that isnt even completed yet is just useless.

meggles
They all look the same...No zig zag or up down stuff...I like the box I saw in the roundtop picture that looks like an upside down V...Isn't Blue going to have a C rail??? How long in feet will Big Boulders new parks be? haha ok. zig zag? i take it you mean dfd's or kinks or something upside down v=a frame pretty much everyone has a c-rail..or at least a c-box and hahaa dude go to www.jfbb.com under 'ride jfbb' then go to the parks and youll see..theyre the entire trail...and theres 5 parks at bb and umm 2 at jf i think? Papasteeze
its really ignorant to claim that boulder is going to be the best this year, and that nothing else will even come close, when no one knows what every area is bringing to the table. so freakin what - why does everyone get upset with claiming. I think that is stupid!!!!!!!! I mean really is that big of deal? If it is, then please call out doug and all his claiming of blue, call out everyone who is proud and hypes anything... Park rats are always claiming. I think the mountain that has been quiet is on a secret mission to be the best since they don't announce anything, you know that they are going to rock... NOT!!!!!!!! I won't lock myself into a season pass if you don't have some reason of what to expect. No one should jump blind. AS it stands today - the information regarding BB's new jibs stands far above anything anybody else has shown. It's not rocket science to figure out who is going to blow up this season. All i'm gonna say is that bb has made all of its announcements as to what its doing in its park already. Neither blue nor bear has yet. Until christmas it is really dumb to say that any park will "blow away" any other. Why is it dumb... I think that is dumb - I wouldn't trust my season pass money to some kind of speculation. Lets see BC's improvements.... IT IS ABSOLUTELY STUPID to keep improvements secret during the season pass decision time. GET off your philosophical claiming that claiming is stupid and get some information out. My claim is that I contend that BC is not improving anything, you don't have anything new to show. That is why you guys are being secret. Wait till christmas??? Ski areas are in the business of selling tickets.

Glenn
... if doug had any credibility in the first place it would be a different story. Claiming any area will have the best park this early in the game takes away whatever credibility you may have had. Remember when you were trying to keep doug from embarassing himself by saying booter... it's kind of like that.
Papasteeze
Claiming any area will have the best park this early in the game takes away whatever credibility you may have had. I really don't understand. What is the matter with predicting? Why would it take away credibility to predict/claim who will have the best? Credibility that I had? Credibility of what? Maybe I am clairvoyant, maybe I see things you don't, maybe I hear voices, so what? I know what I know, and I know that BB will likley be the best I predict that BB, BC and Blue will have all awesome parks however, BB will the place that everyone wants to be. It's not hard to figure out. Everything they do this year will be new compared to last year, new mgmt, new staff, new jibs, new layouts, new jumps, . Blue and Bear have the same trails, jibs and will probably do the same similar jumps, the same people running it, sure they might tweak things to change it up. etc etc. as far as trying to get doug to use booter in a rational context, I thought I might help, cause when it comes right down to it, I don't really care how stupid he wants to make himself look, but i do care how silly he makes this board look. snorovr
My point that I brought up in the first place was that I personally am going to wait until like January before I admit that any mountain has the best, or what I think is the best, park. There is no problem at all with making predictions. I'm amped to be a part of the park and freeride scene at Blue, and having skied there for a number of years I have a pretty good understanding about how things tend to progress up there. As people have said, Blue stepped it up more last year by many times more than they had ever progressed in the past, and with things I've seen and heard thus far I believe will do so again this year. I've skied at Boulder twice. Loved their jumpline, hated their jibs. They've brought in some great experience and it will be fun to see what comes of that this year. Any history from them can't really be used as evidence of things to come, because as Papa argues, everything is "new." So far Bear has kinda been the benchmark for our local parks. Last year was a little disappointing, but in years prior they've done a great job with the parks. They've proven they know how to make a fun park for our area, and with the improvements they know they need to make they will have a great setup this year. Are two guys going to be able to maintain an entire park though? There is a big factor here that I think alot of people are missing, and that is park crew. With all the traffic in a non-pass park, the one obvious prediction I feel safe making is that park crews are going to be a deciding factor in who has the "best" parks. Its tough finding guys and girls who don't put down the rake when their buddies ride by, or want to lock into certain hours for the weekends. Everyone wants to be able to go to comps, and part of being on a crew is giving some of this up. I know for a fact that every mountain tends to go through park crew employees for these reasons and more, and thats an issue that will play a bigger part than I think most realize. Apologies if I'm wrong.
Franklin
You are absolutely right my friend. A park with a non-pass system in place will get destroyed before noon. It will be interesting to see what they have in place at BB.

It will be interesting to see what they have in place at BB. Which is why we need hard working park crews at our local mountains. With the right tools and enough hands the parks should remain in great shape all day. Another positive effect of have the crew in the park on a much more visible basis is the fact that in the ideal situation customers will have uniformed and qualified people to answer questions they might have about parks, the newest and most foreign aspect of skiing/riding to many people. Speaking from experience, a crew of riders yelling at a father and his two 8 year olds to get off the jump or not jump off lips to rails is not exactly the most effective and customer friendly way. Means afterschool we get a fresh park with no worn out landings and inruns. WE have less snow meltages. WE have a park crew with HOURS of daylight to work on everything. we have HOURS to blow more snow. This factor plays in huge when u think about it. THis is gonna help boulder be number one and im happy to say boulder will continue to be my home mountain for the 4th year in a row.

Papasteeze
Are two guys going to be able to maintain an entire park though? Apologies if I'm wrong. Apologie accepted Those two guys are the leaders. Shawn is the expert welder(10 rails in 2 weeks so far) and double duties as the park groomer. On top of that they still have a full park staff. I guarantee that with Shawn and Julian there, there won't be any slackers on the crew. i wont beleive BB will be as good as everyone's hyping it to be You are right! It will likely be a lot better. You guys are missing a HUGE factor here. Boulder will not open untill 3 oclock on weekdays. LOL... gurp called it, I was waiting for someone to escalate this whole "who is going to have the better park" to drop that bombshell! yeah, they also forget that JF and BB are NEVER EVER crowded. Uh huh.. The potential is extra ordinary. Early when it was announced that the MC guys were coming to BB - I said that if half of what I am hearing comes to be, that this is going to be off the hook! Papasteeze
Do they have a park crew recruiting budget that we don't know about? Apparently so: Terrain Park Specialist , Perform routine maintenance on terrain features while ensuring a fun and safe environment for guests. Must be 18 years old and possess knowledge of terrain park etiquette. prior park experience helpful. Snow Groomer, Grooms trails and operates grooming machinery. Heavy equipment experience preferred along with knowledge of skiing/riding terrain. Limited availability. November 4th Tre, Be there! I know they would love to have ya! I'm gonna start rummaging through your mailbox and look for BB return address and envelopes that look like they have checks in em... I'm definitely gonna try to ride all the mountains at least once this year, and may even get to Mountain Creek for the first time on a random weekday. I don't think you'll see me employed at BB this year unless they can do 15 an hour with benefits, a vehicle w/ gas compensation, and some type of lodging. Any offers? LOL! hahaha... there is so much more, things that are not my place to post. I am just trying to get the word out for those who are serious about the park scene. It's hard to convince people what this place is likely to be. It would really stress me to hear mid season "why didn't anyone say something" Something I have noticed is how hard it is to get info out with out it being picked apart. Thats unfortunate and probably the biggest reason on why mountains don't update. They get tired of the scrutiny and harrassment. My skin is thick and I have the facts so I am giving credit where credit is due. I like to think that I am trying to do my part for the whole park community as a by product of helping my kid make decisions. I would like to also think that I do my homework and trust me, this one is a no-brainer. So with that said, I am doing my best to share the wealth and hopefully help others out that have the flexibility to choose where they ride at. Ironically - you were asking about adequate park staff at BB for example. I just recently posted the job fair date in the PASR calendar and knew that there are park crew openings, but better yet. Park Logic runs a myspace and I just noticed this: more jibs. more jumps. more snow... The MidAtlantic Regions Premier Terrain Park Resort -$1million in Terrain Park improvements for 2007 -New Terrain Park Snowmaking System -35+ new jibs -Improved Park Layouts -New ParkLogic Design Team -Increased Terrain Park Staff -New Progression Pipe -New 2,000ft "Intro" Park -New Terrain Park Events
Glenn
... well one thing is certain, they will be the worst park in the U.S. on a daily basis before 3 p.m. I think you are probobly right, PS. They have the opportunity to really do things right.But.... no one, not even the guys building the jibs know how well the execution will be. So, while I would love to see them do well, and I anticipate they will, I'm not making claims about how a great park is. More importantly I'm not writing off areas like Blue Mountain which has continually improved their park with little indication as to what is being done. ... also you talk like the 3p.m. deal is a god send. Conditions deteriorate between 12-6 with most of the damage in the 2-5 range. More importantly, the park is probobly the least used area of the mountain before high schools let out, even in ski areas close to colleges (which would attract the largest weekday park crowd). So they don't open the mountain until the most traffic, and largest conditions degredation happens; big deal. It may help some, but in my estimation it's not going to be a huge difference. I would love to be wrong... but I think that is a man hour decision, it will have little effect on the conditions.
