jordan Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 I just got back from A Basin I had a blast. It was a great time, and now i can say i have been skiing in october Getting to A Basin via loveland pass is one of the most beautiful (and scarriest) drives i have ever been on. IE snowy road, huge cliffs on both sides and no guide rails... If you ever have a chance to go to A Basin, make sure you take loveland pass over the continental divide to get there. There were plenty of people skiing the back country at loveland pass today. Its kinda cool, they park at the bottom, and hitch hike to the top of the divide for their runs. Something I will definately have to do one day. It seems to be like an intro to back country. Because there are so many people there that know what they are doing at any given time, and because of its close proximity to the road, it doesent seem as dangerous as true back country. The first thing i noticed at A Basin was how much natural snow they already have. There is at least 2 feet of natural snow on the ground. That is more natural snow than i have seen on the ground at any given time in PA in several years. The locals think nothing of it. Apparently that is normal this time of year? Anyway, we get to A Basin. The conditions are amazing, the line for the lift was HUGE. They had 2 intermediate runs and a terrain park (with just 3 rails) open. It was at least an hour wait for the lift. We ended up doing 3 runs, and decided we had our fill, and it was not worth it to wait an hour again to repeat the same runs. So we left around 2 ish. (we didnt get there till like 10:30 because the roads were bad on the way there) All in all, it was a fun day, and was definately worth it. Man, does it feel good to get back on skis again. Until next time... Jordan PS. I took some pictures on my camera phone, but i dont think my phone can email them to myself. If anyone else can put them online, or even email them to me, and ill put them online, ill be happy to text them to you... PM or email me at skiracer88@gmail.com if interested... If you have any questions...post em Quote

Great report. Thats a lot of snow. we got there around 10:30 because we had to go like 40mph on I70 because it was snow covered for the most part, and had to go even slower once we got to loveland pass. What should have been a 1.5 hr drive took close to 3 hrs. We ended up leaving at like 2-2:30ish because we had enough of the hour waits to get on the lift So we were there for like 4 hrs Edited October 21, 2006 by jordan Quote
jordan Posted October 21, 2006 Author Report Posted October 21, 2006 (edited) Nice report Jordan...were there alot of poachers? Leave at 5:00AM on a powder day...sleep later..offer to buy breakfast for your buddies..whatever to get first tracks. Keep the reports coming...I'm also bad with pictures and attachments...O.K. so you can log in your day in the top 10 stats... poachers, do you mean people hiking up? If so, there were a few who tried, but A Basin staff always stopped them and yelled at them for some reason.. I guess youre not allowed to do that there? There were a lot of tracks pretty much everywhere off A Basin property though, so a lot of people are hiking and hitting the back country. How do i log a day in the top ten stats? i already included it in my personal stats...does it go in automatically? Jordan Edited October 21, 2006 by jordan Quote
jordan Posted October 21, 2006 Author Report Posted October 21, 2006 I meant skiing closed trails...I bet there were alot of ski patrollers..I once got kicked out of Sugarbush on opening day for skiing a closed trail..There was 18 inches of snow but 3 ski patrollers at the bottom waiting for me. It was already 2:00PM though. Is A-basin part of your season pass? It's there...you're #1 in every category until TP4 says he skied 400 runs at Bear Creek... naa, i didnt see anyone skiing closed trails. A Basin is part of my pass. I have breck, keystone, vail, beaver creek and A Basin. Im kinda wishing i just sucked it up and paid for a loveland ticket though. Apparently the lines there werent bad at all according to a post on TG... Jordan Quote

Justo8484 Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 so, did i ever mention that i hate you? i mean that in a loving way though. seriously, i'm just jealous you're skiing real snow in october, when i'm stuck loading up the back of my subi with rink snow to hit handrails. Quote
