Papasteeze Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 so has anyone heard how sick boulders going to be this year...new boxes new rails= awsome...but does anybody else know what else there getting?? Several new competitions not yet announced is the word. I would expect that with colder weather you will see and hear about even more jumps and jibs. What kind of stuff would you like to see them put in this year? Quote
meggles Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 (edited) sweeet..hopefully they're actually open to skiers too...! im soo stoked!!! Edited November 15, 2006 by megan Quote
NiftySHIFTY Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Any ideas how the pipe is gonna be? Hopefully alright, cuz back when they used to have one it never got groomed. It was fun on powder days though... Quote

jordan Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 y did they get rid of the pipe in the first place.. BB's pipe was made entirely of snow, as was JF's. The last couple seasons, by the time they had the temps to blow that kind of snow, the season was 3/4 of the way over... Jordan Quote

Go to the Big Boulder forum and look for the Park logic updates, there are a lot of pictures that will show you what you are looking for. Quote
method9455 Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I bet the pipe will be improved next season at JFBB, that is something that takes more than a few weeks to prepare for unlike building jibs. Quote

JFBB cannot use molds because of the type of machinary they use . (the pipe dragon) they need a few weeks of really low temps to blow enough snow for a pipe Quote

The mold just provides a basic shape nothing more. Quote

method9455 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Well everyone uses dirt under it. Its not a 'mold' its just two mounds of dirt that save on snow on the outside. the middle is all snow. Every mountain around here uses a cutter of some kind, they haven't been done by hand in ages, and almost all of them use dirt. Quote

Both Jack Frost and Big Boulder stopped using their molds years ago. (BB never really had one anyway) They also havent had a pipe in couple years, but the last one JF had went right down the center of tobyhanna (no mounds of dirt there) and BB's last pipe was in the spot where Jib Alley was last year, again, no mounds of dirt there. Jordan Whats your point. Every resort stil uses a cutter regardless. Blue has 2 mounds, they still have a cutter... The "Molds" don't do anything.. besides provide a basic shape, if they just blew snow on them, it's just be 2 mounds of snow... Admit for once that you are wrong.. Quote
jordan Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 How am I wrong? I said JFBB dont use molds because they are worried about hitting the dirt and ruining their equipment... That is absolutely 100% correct.. Jordan Quote

JFBB could use them, they are just inexperienced with the cutter obviously. Quote
method9455 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Yea man, your talking about pipes from about 10 years ago. Shawnee, Camelback, Mountain Creek (GRAND PRIX SUPERPIPE), Blue, Hunter, Mount Snow, they all use them for sure. It basically just supports the outside edge of the pipe instead of using snow, has nothing to do with inside that is being cut. None of those places use hand cutting anymore. The only serious half pipe on the east coast that I have seen without dirt was the superpipe in Tremblant which is 100% snow, but again they are below 30 degrees for about 3 months straight so, snowmaking is a hell of a lot easier and cheaper. Even then, I went up last year and Mountain Creek's superpipe was open before Tremblants. Quote
Papasteeze Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Even then, I went up last year and Mountain Creek's superpipe was open before Tremblants. it was? didn't they have problems with the grand prix and the pipe. Quote
method9455 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Been up to Tremblant 3 years in a row, all 3 times Mountain Creeks was open before them. Quote
