bigdaddyk Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Anybody been to Alpine Mt.? I'm surprised that we don't hear more about it, since it is in the Poconos. I plan on hitting up some of the less talked about resorts, this year. I figure it will be the only way to know if I am missing out on anything. Also, from looking at some of Eagle Rock's pics, the snow looks decent...only problem is they are not open during the week. Quote
Dan- Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 I've been to alpine once. Your not missing anything. Quote

Ski Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 I skied in their mini-mogul competition a couple of times...and my oldest and I did their weekend races for a while. The mogul comp was held on the very short but kind of steep headwall right at the very bottom right of the mountain as you look from the lodge. Alpine has super slow lifts that just creep up the flat terrain. It's an almost total beginner/novice hill, but a good place to take kids. I remember one weekend that a group of club racers (Jeff has met some of the Joe M. crowd at Blue's NASTAR) showed up for the Coke Classic and were a little upset that they had to pole and skate through the middle of the course. Avoid it on busy weekends. It's so close to Shawnee that they even take some of their overflow from holidays. But midweek nights, you might be the only person on the hill. If it were the only hill around, I'd buy a season pass. Otherwise, there's really no reason for us to ski Alpine. Quote

Philpug Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Ah, Alpine. Skied there in the late 70's early 80's when it was Timber Hill, 2 T-Bars and a Poma. Never much of a mountain, but a grass roots type place that helps grow the industry. The kind of lttle area that the instuctors, patrollers all stood around and directed the kids on how to make jumps with hay-bails and made sure that they were out of the way and had proer landings.
