Looking to buy a pair of NEW skis

Recommended Posts

Well, since I just got a new job, my first pay check will be pretty hefty (hopefully), and with that money, I want a new pair of skis.

I am an intermediate skier, looking for an intermediate pair of skis. I would like Atomic or Nordica skis. I can't seem to find the right pair on the internet. The skis need to look good, and have good bindings.

I would like them to be price any where from 400-600 bucks or cheaper. Does anybody know of any pair of skis like this?

If you do, then please tell me! :)

Why Atomic or Nordica?

Are you looking for primarily all mountain with some park?

Do you race? How important is that?

What height and weight are you?

Do you go west to ski at all?

Do they have to be new equipment?

All mountain ski, with a little bit of a park in them. (to give it a shot of coarse)

I don't race, but I might give racing a try.

What height and weight are you?

I am 6'0", 177 pounds

Do you go west to ski at all?

Once every year. But in the spring so not much powder if thats what your asking.

Do they have to be new equipment?

Yes, I would LOVE brand spankin' new equipment :rock

K2's would probably be decent for you. I have a pair of the Axis XT's, but I think the Apache series took over the Axis line (sib would know for sure, I think she has or had the Axis XP)

I don't know if Volkl still has the Energy line, but if they do consider the Energy 320 or 420. I think Emtp563 has the Energy 420.

All of the skis I mentioned before come with the Marker Motion bindings. If you don't want them, you can also find the versions of them without the rails for the motion system.

READ THAT

ummm, how are you buying $400 skis with your first paycheck....I make more then you and my paychecks aren't even that big :banghead

But Philpug will agree, if you want an all mtn ski that can do it all...atomic metrons.

I said maybe my third or fourth. I am putting in ALOT of hours. But when I get enough money, then I will get skis.

How much are the Metrons?

I was going to say it too. If you can buy skis on your first paycheck at a grocery store, I better get a job at that store

They do need more employees :wiggle:rofl

Out of curiosity, how many hours are you working?

Well on Saturday, I worked 8 hours, for the next few days 6 or more hours. I can only work 8 hours maximum. I work on Thanksgiving, with extra pay I believe. I get payed for breaks. But as of now 40 hours a week.

I make 5.75 an hour. But in a week or two, it will become 6.50 an hour because I will be a cashier. :rock

So if I work 40 hours this week, I get 230 bucks on my paycheck. Another two 40 hour weeks, then thats 690 bucks total. Plus tips from the elderly if I help them to their car :rock

How many hours does the Child Labor Law allow you to work?

I hate Child Labor Laws: 8 hours per day, 40 hours maximum per week. :banghead I would work more for a better pay. I worked over time this past friday, and got payed those extra hours :woot

Danger how are you exempt from paying taxes?? Sounds like a good gig.... :rock

I have to pay taxes, but not that many taxes? I actually have no idea on how it works. But if I get over 500 bucks, then my dad will pay the rest off :rock

I have some brand new 2007 Salomon Dumont Twin Tips. Its a wood core ski with an 18.5m turning radius and 83mm waist so its a pretty good all condition/all mountain ski. They are 176cm so if you're 6 foot and going to be using them as an all around ski they would fit you great. I'm asking $400 on them. You can find suitable bindings for anywhere between 75-125 bucks. That'll keep you right in your price range.

I swung 30 hours on top of getting a 4.0 in high school, worked at McDonalds for 2 years, then a ski shop for 2 and an engineering firm this summer, its doable. You will pay taxes though, not much but they take a cut for sure. Its doable but check out the Line Prophet with the 80mm waist, they are cheaper than the Metrons and the Axis, and pretty cool twin tip all mountain skis. Elan Magfire series are great skis and usually cheaper than their equivalent competitor as well.

if your looking for a solid ski for a pretty good price, check out the k2 5com. its got a bit of a turned of tail so you can play around skiing switch on it too. its by no means the most top of the line ski, but it has a huge ability range that would suit a lot of different skiers pretty well. it also skis very damp.

Get those!!!!!!! That is a sick ski. It is a pro model... The Metrons are way too "turny" for an intermediate and they will suck in the park. It's a fun ski, but you have to pay attention to them or they will sling you.

40 hours?!?!!? You work more then my parents :o

In HS I worked 20/week, and now I'm only working 11/week. :banghead

I know right.. In HS i worked anwhere from 20-30 a week. Now in college, summers i work about 30-40 a week. During school and winter i work 15-20. BY choice. Snowboarding is more important than work..

Oh and you say by 3rd or 4th, just intime for ski season? do you get paid weekly or biweekly, because if it's bi, then thats 2 months from now, and ski season will be well underway.

Yea if you get off your ass its not that hard to hold down a job in high school on top of the work. I worked that many hours and didn't miss a friday or saturday night for 4 years either so, people complain that their social life will suck but who goes out before 8 anyway? you can do 3 - 7 everyday after school and get 20 hours in, come home do your homework, and work 8-10 hours on saturday, and do 28 hours a week easily. work longer after school and less days, you can go up to the mountain twice afterschool a week plus a weekend day. do your work during your free time in school. Pull something that busy and you will be well prepared for college.

40 hours a week is my goal. But I doubt I will this week. Maybe 30 hours. But when I reach the money goal of 600 or 700 bucks, then I will be keeping my eye out for new skis. I probably won't get them until the third week of ski season. :rock
