AtomicSkier Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Sept 22, 2004Excellent thats just amazing! how does that snow stay there all year? Quote
Ski Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Each 1000 ft. = -3.6 degrees F. It's also why they sometimes find frozen dead guys with lots of broken bones in the desert. Quote
skimom Posted September 28, 2004 Author Report Posted September 28, 2004 It wasn't as nicely covered until last week when they got a snow storm. Also, remember, a large portion of it is a glacier. They are the first place with lifts running for the new season. Quote

Hood year round, see http://www.timberlinelodge.com/. In late July, Aug, and early Sept., it's basically skiing on the bottom reaches of a glacier. You can drive there to the lodge in Aug, and be wearing shorts and a tee shirt, and walk up to the end of the glacier, and notice a huge temperature difference, and of course see die-hards skiing and boarding.
