Matt Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 But weren't Bear Creek locals complaining that Bear Creek was slacking on the snowmaking and waited until pretty late at night to start blowing snow on the few key days? It also amazes me that Spring is open with limited terrain despite two rainstorms and Bear Creek closed last week.. As far as I can remember for the past two years (before that I wasn't as into skiing as I am now), in my opinion ... Bear is always a little slow to blow. They always take it easy and never as aggressive as JFBB or Blue and this year they are paying for it, dearly. They always try to open around the 15th-ish and never try to blow until a few days before that. Let's hope they can get open ASAP. Quote
ski_unit Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 up until today spring had solid cover on that one main top to bottom trail by the lodge (which they consider two trails) and then on the side of the lower half they had two mailboxes, their c-box, and a fun new flat box that some kind soul donated. about noon today they closed the flat box because all the snow around it was melting. the owner said it should be set up again tomorrow, but they're definitely going to be hurting for snow in other places. they should be able to survive until they can blow at night though. kmudrick Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Hmm. So I look at the Spring Mountain webcam this morning and there is still snow (they're even grooming stuff right now) and BC's webcam.. looks like another night of no blowing. But hey BC has a sweet lodge and hotel! And the pond of eternal warmness. Quote
tell_them_nothing Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 They may or may not blow snow tonight and tomorrow night. Quote
Tyler Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 as i think yummerrzz mentioned in a post in another thread...a river will lead to colder water...Spring mountain gets its water from the Perkiomen Creek ( i think) which has got to be colder than Bear Creeks ponds Quote
VTmark Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I must say. I like this guy already. Just no playing favorites it is fun to blame communists tho... it is. it is. Quote
Matt Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 From BC's website... "Update for Wednesday: If the weather cooperates, our snowmakers will be firing up the guns tonight!" Quote
supertrooper12 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) i sure hope they do blow tonight, because possibly the next few nights might be blowing temps too, it would be nice to snowboard there on new years . a long shot but i can hope can't i also the humidity is very low right now so i guess that makes it easier to blow Edited December 27, 2006 by supertrooper12 Quote
tell_them_nothing Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 It snowed at my place today. Quote
ryan944299 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Maybe that oil spring mt was leaking into their snow machines last year is making some difference in their snow this year? That would be sweet if oil could do that to snow. It would be the new trend in snowmaking. Quote
bigdaddyk Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 ...I doubt that those who are clueless will actually take the time and learn from your post, props for trying, ... Yeah people are definately clueless. Today at JF, I heard a lady ask if it was actually snowing or if they were making snow. Scarey thing is that she was serious . Quote

righthandedlefty Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 So yeah, I was just watching the 6o-clock news on CHannel 6 and they just did a little piece on the ski resorts,Live from Bear. All I can say is WOW! Bear looks horrible! There is more grass and mud than snow. I knew their conditions were bad,but I didnt know they were THAT bad! Its gonna take more then a "few" nights of blowing to get open with a nice base. Hope they blow tonight,it sure as he77 is freezin out right now!! ..adam.. Quote

supertrooper12 Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 id be up at blue if i could afford the gas and the pass. Quote
Tyler Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 i wouldve went to blue tonight but spring mountain was quicker on such short notice. $15 lift tickets bc it was student night. Not as good as blue but it was riding which i havent done for almost 2 weeks till now. I dont know how they did it but spring has a good 1+ ft base and they had 3 rails. If only they had a park crew Quote
tell_them_nothing Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 Spring should hire parklogic and get a bus in the park.. A bus is so cliche maybe a VW minibus? ... the rear end of a tractor trailor! That would be sick. I think I saw something like that in an old 411. Quote
