poconoceancity Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 (edited) Well shawnee might blow some out, thanksgiving is in a month minus one day. And if it is cold, it is possible that we get lucky <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does anyone remember the last time a mountain in the Poconos opened in November? Edited October 25, 2004 by poconoceancity Quote

Ski Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Shawnee has opened in November with one very overcrowded and lame run, "Pennsylvanian", or whatever. They always project for Thanksgiving and are usually the first to open, but it's ALWAYS a waste of time. CB, on the other hand, waits too freaking long to open. The Daves' answer is that they want to get terrain open for all abilities, when in fact, it's because they act like tightasses and can't imagine opening at less than full customer capacity. Belleayre is hoping for Nov. 6th; Hunter the 13th, but likely the 20th. I'm heading to Belleayre for opening day... Quote
skidude Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Mmm bellyare...What do they usually open with? And do you think they will actully get open then? Skimom..... Quote
ThinkSnow Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 How far of a drive is Belleayre? Quote
poconoceancity Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 How far of a drive is Belleayre? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's about 3 hours from the Big Boulder area. Quote
skidude Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Its about the same as Hunter as I recall, just no windy roads with cliffs on one side Quote
ThinkSnow Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 That sounds do-able from the philly area who wants to split gas costs Quote
tretiak Posted October 26, 2004 Author Report Posted October 26, 2004 ill split as long as i get shot gun Quote

skidude Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 When are you going, and when are you coming back? Quote
Ski Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 That sounds do-able from the philly area who wants to split gas costs <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, Windham, Hunter, and Belleayre are all doable from Philly for a day trip. The Catskills are roughly 3 hours from Philly... For anyone around Camelback, it's a lot easier to take the back way, rather than the NY Thruway. Check a map and look for Honesdale, PA, which is about 43 miles from CB...then it's just 85 miles to Belleayre. http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.ad...-01979-400c2528 Quote
Ski Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 And, btw, the back way is mostly 60 mph, so it takes about 90 min. from Honesdale, not 2 hrs. 18 min. And that's in a Jeep... Quote

ThinkSnow Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Dood... I'm considering a day trip to Killington... this place is very do-able I'll be keeping my eye on it... dying to ski. Ski, are the grass skis packed up yet? or are u skiing on those till you have snow? Quote
skimom Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Unacceptable. If Belleayre opens earlier than other areas, it can't happen on the 6th - we are the cheering squad for Skisister that day. Ski999, make them open it on the 5th. Quote
