method9455
Well weight and the board type have a lot to do with it. I can get 4-5 feet out of the Superpipe at Creek on one board and can't reach the lip on another. The one I can get out on is the hard carving/stiff board i have with a stone grind and a sharp edge tune and wax. The other is a noodely jib board with no edges and no wax and it can't even get up the wall. But also lighter weight kids have a lot of trouble getting out of the pipe. Thats one of the reasons women don't get as high out of the pipe as men do on the higher levels. Side note - its apparently almost official Mountain Creek won't be opening the superpipe this year. method9455
Yea I'm looking forward to it, and when I go to camelback I always bring my tuned up board because I don't spend much time in the park, and if I am I'm doing jumps so I use my good board for that anyway. Sometimes when I'm at Creek I have the jib board because 90% of their stuff tears up your base and then I can't ride pipe without going down to the basearea or the car and switching boards. But I'd rather keep one expensive board in good condition and then buy cheap boards to beat up on rails because they will get destroyed anyway. The good board is 3 seasons old and looks less damaged than the board I took out for 2 days of rail riding.
Skizilla
Just to be clear this isn't a dig on people who live in the park. I have an honest question. I was just wondering last weekend why people are so eager to mess up their bases and edges doing grinds on rails and boxes. Yeah it may look cool and all but doesn't your board or sticks get all hammered up?? You would think with all the hardpack you would want to keep your edges sharp. Do you guys have to buy bulk size packs of ptex every season and file your edges after every day you go out?
Glenn
Don't offroaders worry about their trucks, they will get dirty, scraped up and even.... BROKEN. You buy a jib stick to destroy. So, you know how much it's going to cost you, it's a lot of fun, and it's another way to progress. It's not impossible to get around with detuned edges, but typically you just spend more time in the park because freeriding hardpack with the detuned edges isn't that fun. Also there is no need to file the edges as they will not get sharp, and having them dulled is beneficial when on rails/boxes. I patch the really big gashes in my base (well zaldon does) and I don't worry too much about the small stuff. I wax my base, but not a ton. So you basically need another deck if you want to be able to carve. OK I'll buy that. I just don't understand spending all that money and then destroying my gear but I guess I'm old school. method9455
Well you don't mind beating it up because you are expecting to. I never buy a current model one because they're all the same. Full wood core, biaxial fiberglass, sometimes sintered sometimes extruded base, and a little variation in shape but all twins. So sticker price is only like $350 and you can find them for $200 on sale no problem. I've been going through one a season generally. It breaks about mid-february or march and I pick one up for the end of the year and the majority of the next season. I couldn't get away with just one board because I'd buy a stiffer board for freeriding, and it would be a bitch to replace. So instead I picked up a really nice board (at of the year sale it was pretty cheap too) and it has lasted me a long time while I keep going through the cheaper boards in the park. As for ptex, while I still wax mine a lot I generally don't ptex the jib board unless its a core shot because it is a waste of time. Rarely are you going into a jib with too little speed, and if you are then the setup is bad. The wax is more to reduce more scracthing and let it slide better than speed on snow. I start by beveling the edges 3 degrees up, then running a file lengthwise down the whole edge once or twice, and then I'll basically grind out the edge from binding centerline to binding centerline. It won't get through ice but even on hardpack the control is ok. Generally the in ramps in the park are pretty chewed up so ice isn't a huge issue. I've never really worried about it because if you want to do the park there is no way to avoid it and until you blow out an edge or break the core or something like that it doesn't stop you from riding park. Papasteeze
Here again. The Jib Lab guys first contacted CB last fall and then ended up at BB - as far as I know they are still available. papa as a regular member of CB's msg board before it got shut down i remember you mentioning the Jib lab guys talking to cb AFTER then split ways from camelback. I was wondering if that's what you meant of if you we're with holding info for the sake of the board, thats the only question I had. Jiblab contacted CB originally in the fall - I was encouraging a dialogue after BB - I don't know if it happen or not. But yes - there is information being withheld. Just to be clear this isn't a dig on people who live in the park. I have an honest question. Do you guys have to buy bulk size packs of ptex every season and file your edges after every day you go out? Here is an honest answer.. people who live in the park don't care about edges or bases and rarely p-tex and certainly are unlikely to wax. For example there are kids who go to the slopes that never leave the park and there are kids in the park who don't ski or ride well. BTW - Skizilla, with questions like these you are off the hook.. it explains a lot.
toast21602
the bases on my Foils are higher than the edges that are completely rounded off. haha. they cant ski anywhere else unless its powder of soft snow.
