AtomicSkier Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 A cranker is a term you couldn't quickly look up on the internet to pretend to know about ski racing. AKA, a gate that's a little more offset than the rhythm called for and/or a gate that's thrown in at a minimum distance....you have to really "crank" your skis to make the gate. Just like it sounds. And now you know. Crankers suck. Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Yeah, crankers suck... why can't gate setters just let us keep that rhythm? Damn them. Everytime I start doing something right they foil my plans for race and/or age group domination. Quote

I missed a gate in the MC slalom last year like 10 gates from the finish because of that, and getting tired. Just too far of a reach to clear it and just missed it. Quote
Metz the Jersey boy Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Speaking of the Mt Creek slalom... Next weekend I'm going to just like Bode and finish my first slalom in a year. Quote
skidude Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Good news is that I'm feeling better. Side still hurts a lot, but less than before, so hopefully I'll be at BC on Wed night. Quote
Ski Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Good news is that I'm feeling better. Regarding crankers, coaches are actually instructed to set courses with "surprises to challenge the athletes". Some surprises are bigger than others. Quote

Some surprises are bigger than others. Haha. I'm looking at who is setting the J3 race, and who is setting the J4/5 race on Cliffy for Sunday. I think once course is going to have more 'surprises' than the other. Most of which will be unplanned...But who knows. Its gonna be fun. They had this nice thing going at Tussey...Hairpin or flush, then set the next two gates across the hill from eachother... Quote

Ski Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Just to be clear: It's not called cranky, you idiot. Quote
