Mostly as a record for next year, today is the day they opened up South for all customers - making today the first time this season all 4 mountains have been open. Everything is open with the exception of jumping jack, southern sojourn, and independance. Still very little in the main park, nothing in exhibition, no pipe, but moving in the right direction.

i'll be at MC this saturday for the first time ever...anybody gonna be there?

don't judge it by this season, probably the worst in 5 years - although the park is still solid, its almost equal to JFBB but usually its better.

Yea the blacks aren't steep at all and intersect with a green trail halfway on vernon so even though the mountain has a lot of vert compared to PA mountains - it is not extended fall line at all. The best runs are from the top of Vernon to the base of Granite which is green/blue the whole way but feels long and you can get a lot of speed for it. The best trail overall is Devil's Bit on Granite - usually uncrowded with good conditions and is steep for a good amount of time. There is nothing steep on South for the most part and Bear has two good trails but they are always closed so the race team can use them - and the vert is like 600 feet.

The park is being run mostly by newbies this year. (not really new to parks, but new to being in charge) which is why the park is so empty. They have good setups because they have built them in the past but it is time consuming and they are on a learning curve this year. In their own words:

Reason being... We are really short staffed, and It's very hard to get kids to come in for the overnight shift to do a park build... We ideally like to have 3 - 4 park guys including myself and the cat driver during a park build...

Basically I think its really hard to get people to come in for a job that really only lasts for 3 months, and in all honesty it is hard to find guys that are actually dedicated to doing a good job in the park.

We did lose basically all of our experienced guys... I consider myself and Todd (main park builder) to be rookies... We are trying to learn as fast as we can, but I will tell you that it's very challenging to pick up the slack. I know the progress is slower than usual, but we are learning a lot as the season progresses.. We hope that you guys all enjoy the finished product and we guarentee that the park will be finished a hell of a lot quicker next season!

We may be young, but we have drive, knowledge and skill... We are currently just trying to learn ways to make us more efficient with building the parks..

Thanks for all the compliments as well..

Next year they should be better but I'm still switching to one of the PA mountains I don't have the time in january to be sitting around holding a season pass to a mountain that isn't open. No matter what Mountain Creek does for snowmaking they will still be a few degrees warmer than the PA mountains and that is all the difference it takes. They can and used to have a park superior to anything in PA, and I think the park they had in the past few years was several times better than what JFBB put up this year if only because they had so much vert you could make great long runs, a park pass sytem that worked, and they had a superpipe that was amazing. Without the pipe, and with a partial park it is kind of a toss up. The park pass is still a bonus and the vert hasn't changed but they have eliminated the park at South and haven't put much on Vernon so, its about 1/2 the park it usually is.

the park pass is awesome tho. i'd pay an extra 5 bucks everytime i go to bear just to keep the noobs out of the park

Its actually only $5 for the whole season yet it works wonders. A lot of people think its $5 per day so they don't buy one but you do it once and your done for the year and it eliminates 90% of the people from the park. I was up there 25 days last year and 25 days the year before and I never have heard someone who belonged in the park complain about the park passes.

you obviously dont know much about the wii. It is currently the most bought system for the past few months. Graphics arent great because of the whole motion capturing. Its a whole new breaktrhough. In a few years youll have the same concept with crystal graphics. And go play redsteel nucca.

so your telling me its only 5 bucks a season to go in the park at creek?

Yea and 0 hassle, there is a guy there that checks it the whole time so I have it attached to my pants and just walk by - but its gated with the like riot style metal gates so you have to walk through a 3 foot wide section - no one sneaks in/ducks ropes etc. Also, its coming off the gondola so you don't have your gear on anyway. The reason it works for Creek is that 4 of the park trails start in one location, so they make all park pass controlled, then the other 3 parks (or should it be 4, is flying fox ever going to be park again?) and the pipe open to everyone and put begginer stuff in the small ones for people to learn on. Then only the advanced riders who can hit ollie on rails and 25+ foot jumps are in the main park, (like 1/4 of the total park rats), and no non park rats cruising through - it is practically empty on the indian and independance runs no matter what time of day you go. Khyber is flatter so sometimes the features there are more easy/intermediate (like when they had the 40 foot wide box there last season) and it gets crowded with kids who are in that kind of inbetween stage. But the other two trails are very advanced and never get crowded or beat up.

Creek still has some good setups in the park, but snow coverage and crowds are always an issue. Creek back in the day was the only option when it came to progression, but now they got some competition and it's questionable what the future holds for them...
