Pulled into a bitter cold parking lot at JF, booted up, and met up with the team. After a mad steezy 13th place finish yesterday, and a win for Lehigh, we were up against the same teams from yesterday. Course inspection yielded a more technical (as technical as you can get on that trail) then yesterday, with one turn you really had to be ahead and forward on. Inspected twice, then did some runs with the guys on JF's legendary and EPIC "East Hill". I was able to make about 3 GS turns in total on the run under the East Hill lift, so that got me warmed up for the race :banghead . First run you had to be ready for the pitch, so I set up the first gate perfect, got too high, though while not preferred, its better then being too low. But it set me up for a pretty clean run to the finish. Didn't push as hard as I could have after the fact, but it was a pretty clean run. I was in 17th place after the first run. After lunch, went to check the course out again. It was a very similar set to yesterday, though slightly tighter after the headwall, then it was even more open at the bottom. I was pretty quick to the headwall, set up the headwall pretty well (though could have been alot more aggressive, though when its a blind gate, its hard to set it up correctly) and flew down to the finish through the flater section (thanks DrD!). Cut like two seconds off my time for an 18th place finish. Not too bad, I feel I skied much better today, but some of the better guys were there today. I just need to be more aggressive with my line on the headwall. I'm setting it up too well, and not pointing them down the fall line for more speed.

Congrats and great report! What's the winning time (curious about the length of that course---and what run it is)? And where are you next?

Winning time was 1:11x and I was 1:18x, a bigger gap then yesterday but the top guys could REALLY take a straight line down the course. Lehigh's fastest guy is from Wisconsin, then the next four fastest guys were New England racers, then me :) Second run today was the fastest course set, with the top guys running it in 34 seconds, while the first run today was the longest with the top guys running it in the high 36's. It was on the run "The Challenge".

Next week is a slalom at MC on the skiers left slope (not the one we ran SL on with ASRA).

Our mountain opened in mid-January....

The ASRA slalom was on the skiers left slope yesterday...Kat and I had to bail for something, but I've raced on that one before. It's actually a lot easier than the main slope. The main slope gets rutted out really badly just over the crest of the headwall because of how steep it is; the one you'll be on is a straight shot out of the little house---also better is that you don't have to take your skis off and climb up to the start...that's such a drag.

I looked for these races on the USSA web site, they are not listed, so I guess your conference doesn't bother with running USSA sanctioned races, so no point in becoming a USSA member.

I'm glad to see my alma mater Lehigh is still winning races, keep it up! I know the team didn't lose a league race the four years before I raced, the three while I was there (2000-2002), and almost certian they haven't lost since I've left (I think the winning streak might go back further than that too). I'm also jealous, we had to do ALL our regular season races at Mountain Creek and only skied on Saturdays. That got very boring. Where are regionals this year?
