Over-21 Race League Opening @ Sno

Team FGT FTW! Metz Jerz and Ski are going down :rock

IDK, Jeff, I don't want to post all the names right now, but the top three guys on our team have a NASTAR handicap of less than 20...that's total, not an average. But since they use the NASTAR team scoring system, it's okay to not be as fast, as long as you are old...for example, you'd have to run a 9 handicap to score as many team points as me running an 11 handicap next season...not that I wouldn't just beat you outright :)

Metz..are you on Skis team??? Isn't pool league going to get in the way :tinfoil: I thought you were anti Atomic..Maybe Atomic Jeff will sell his GS:12s to you since he wants to go up in length next season. Is this race league on the Nastar course at Sno-tage or something steeper?

Metzy must have locked himself in the pro shop...

Yes, he's one of eight members of the Racewax.com Ski Team.

The league has been racing on the NASTAR course...sometimes as a dual course. They are also considering moving the start house up to the top of the headwall on Switch, which would be cool. It might make it the longest NASTAR course in America, since it's pretty close as is. They also plan to set a practice slalom course on the left side of Switch for us, which is freaking great. Anyone that has fun skiing GS gates HAS to try slalom---you need pole guards, but not shin guards---it's sort of the same feeling as a country carnival that has a junk car and a sledge hammer.

Wow, can't believe I missed the rest of this thread... yeah, its that time of the year again, so they've got me locked up in my room at the proshop building, repairing, regripping, fitting, and whatever else they want me to do to golf clubs.

And Jeff- I've got 5 on Cole.

And 5 that says I'm a nasty enough sum'mabitch to knock your grandmother off a chairlift if she beat me first run.

Oh yeah, and yes, I'll be on Atomics next year. I'm coming over to the dark side. Fact of the matter is that I skied GS and SL 12's and I ski them better than what I've got. Not to mention that my SL skis are 5 runs from having no bases left.

And don't tell my pool teams, but I'm taking a winter hiatus from pool next year... Especially if one of my teams makes nationals this session.

Gotta train next year. As the all wise and knowing (not to mention uber fast) Johnny P told me- You've got to do the homework before you take the test.

It was under Nastar, Unless that is last years flyer....

Last year's...the intention is to run dual courses, but last year's late opening and bad early snowmaking just got them behind. We had a couple of dual courses, which were a blast and adds some juice even though your aren't really head-to-head (it's best time on each particular course).

I've been talking to Dr.D and am placing a small order to get everyone started. So as soon as I run into everyone, I'll have vests and some fast wax.

Sweet Deal! I am going up to a coaches camp at Sugarbush, Dec. 14-16. Our Course conductors are AJ Kitt and Doug Lewis with the possibility of Daron Rahlves showing up on sunday. =) So, I am hoping to get a few pointers before race season starts....

That's awesome...I'll be at it next year. During the ASRA camps, I was only in Doug's group once, but he's probably the best race instructor I've ever met. Man, you're gonna come back and push Mike and Chris as our rabbit :rock

I've run NASTAR, but never a slalom. This may be a dumb question, but why wouldn't you also need shin guards? Is it because at this skill level one is not going to be that close to the gates?

Yep. You start of with cross blocking using pole guards, then graduate to 'shinning' the gates. For some adults, beginning to shin gates can happen after a few times out, while for others it takes a few seasons....I don't recommend investing in a speed suit until people are hooked on GS and I don't recommend shin guards until they are hooked on slalom gates.
