Ski Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Someone sent me an email about this, saying what a bummer it was and how it just undercuts the entire concept of being able to compare handicaps...just for the record, the lowest handicap pacesetter at Sno won't even set pace when he's put in a full day's work on the slopes because he's not at his best. And then shit like this happens at another resort: http://www.nastar.com/index.jsp?pagename=r...p&year=2007 It doesn't effect me, nor would I care if it did...but using the last race of the season to give away a golden day and screw with what a lot of other people across the state and country have worked for sucks. For those that don't follow it: this particular pacesetter took a very slow run of 29.35 on a nice, sunny Saturday afternoon. Then, he got back on the course and crushed his own time by 2.35 seconds. Doing this, he dropped his own handicap from 15 to a 5, as well as allowing everyone else during that day to have amazingly low handicaps. What would a a reasonable improvement for a decent ski racer from one run to the next? Maybe knocking off .25, or .50 at most. But this guy knocked off over two full seconds...I wonder if it was a coincidence that his mom raced that day? This was the same pacesetter that gave out a golden day during the first race of the season, dropping three seconds off his own pace time to get a 3 handicap...apparantly NASTAR busted him for that and recalculated the race. I would bet Nastar will recalculate that race which will make the Par time 22.95 and change all those results. Only if someone brings it to their attention. That is one problem I have with pacesetters that race after they have paceset. He should have re-paceset with the 27.00. Funny how his time was an even 27.00. I bet if they check the timing log it would be different. Edited March 13, 2007 by First Grade Teacher Quote
Ski Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Hey, 1st Grade! I bet you're right and that was pretty much my suggesting to the person that pointed it out to me...just send a link to NASTAR. I've tried to steer clear of that site since Dr*n*w threatened to beat me up. Edited March 13, 2007 by ski Quote

Ski Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 Who's Dr*n*w? That was the edit...he visits various MB's and searches his name to see who is talking about him. So I can't really say, other than he invented time travel, the polio vaccine, and all things having to do with NASTAR. Quote

Unless you have polio I wouldn't be concerned. Quote
Ski Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 We have some history, 1st Grade...but we're leaving it as history. BTW, did I run into you in upstate NY this past weekend? Quote

Ski Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 I had a real quick sports assignment for AP...that can be one long mother of a drive to make on a regular basis. Not as bad as Maine or Northern NH, I suppose. But anyway...moving on... Quote
stever2003 Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 ...but using the last race of the season... Sorry to get off topic, but, Is NASTAR done for the season? Everywhere? Quote
Ski Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 There's no official cutoff date. Each mountain can run their courses as long as they have snow. Sno, for instance, is waiting to see how the snow holds up through this warm period before making a call for next weekend. Belleayre will probably run NASTAR for a few more weeks...you can usually call and ask for the ski school desk to get info. Quote
