Ski Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 LAKE LOUISE, Alberta (AP) -- Bode Miller became the first man to open a World Cup season with three victories in three disciplines, winning a super-giant slalom Sunday ahead of Hermann Maier. Miller's first career Super G win came one day after his first World Cup downhill victory. He also won the season-opening giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, and is just the fourth skier to win World Cup races in all five disciplines over his career (slalom and combined are the others). ``It's awesome,'' Miller said. ``I didn't have as high expectations of myself coming into these races as the results I have achieved. It's always nice to get surprised once in a while by yourself. To move into that group, that's the most exclusive club there is in World Cup.''

Ski Posted November 29, 2004 Author Report Posted November 29, 2004 And it sucks to have three different sports channels covering freaking poker and not a mention of a World Cup race. When the F did cards become a sport?
skifreak Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 And it sucks to have three different sports channels covering freaking poker and not a mention of a World Cup race. When the F did cards become a sport? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, all of a sudden there are some many poker tournaments on tv. I guess card playing is now considered an extreme sport there is more coverage of that garbage than skiing.
AtomicSkier Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 And it sucks to have three different sports channels covering freaking poker and not a mention of a World Cup race. When the F did cards become a sport? when does OLN start covering FIS WC skiing? this weekend? or next?
Ski Posted November 29, 2004 Author Report Posted November 29, 2004 They are showing one race a week---which is half of what they had last year--on Saturdays at 10pm, then re-running it at 1am, Sunday, and again Wednesday night. A few years ago, OLN ran two mens and two womens races every weekend. NBC has a few races, too, but they spend 15 minutes doing fluff crap and only showing racers that finish in the top 20. The quality of NBC coverage is amazing, with great camera work and all the best technology...it's just that they don't give a crap about presenting it as a race as opposed to an event.
skimom Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I got to see it - the Kyoto news showed it...he was terrific. He is way faster on atomics.

Ski Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 Two things: 1. Did you know that the feeds began THIS year and not last year, let alone the '04-'05 season? 2. How long did you have to go through old posts to find something that I just shot down in four seconds?
First Grade Teacher Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Two things: 1. Did you know that the feeds began THIS year and not last year, let alone the '04-'05 season? 2. How long did you have to go through old posts to find something that I just shot down in four seconds? 1. I don't care when they started. Ski racing has been tape delayed for years so don't even try that angle. You broke your own rule. 2. You didn't shoot anything except yourself in the foot. Now relax and admit I caught you breaking your own rule. Relax Ski, because of all your bitching about posting results in the header, I can't open a thread about racing. I don't care but think it's very ironic that you as the racing expert posted the exact same info just 2 seasons ago. The very thing that you gave me so much shit about.
Ski Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 The North American openers were NOT broadcast in the US. I believe NBC had live coverage when they went down to Beaver Creek after Lake Louise. Not really a "Gotcha Moment", is it 1st Grade? I posted same day results in a header because it wasn't being broadcast live; on tape-delay; or, on an internet feed. There was NO way to watch this race in America within a week of it happening. So where does that leave your arguement? And why do you want to argue? Okay, go back and try to find something else. I have over 6 thousand post, so there's got to be something.

Remember............you didn't want to tell me who is, so I went looking for the thread. And Blue was open until 5 yesterday so you should reconsider about letting Jeff and Doug in the Moose Pee Pool! (Who the hell closes a ski area at 1:00?) Edited April 2, 2007 by First Grade Teacher

Ski Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 Did you hear your buddy Bode is the SG champ? I'll bet he got twisted that night! There's been some serious talk from within the FIS of getting rid of the Super G event. Their argument is that it was an extra discipline for speed event skiers, but now that so many racers are in all events, it clutters the schedule needlessly. Ligety blew a million dollars in winning incentives this year...Bode lost more. I think they are licking their wounds---er, drowning their wounds instead of doing much celebration. There were incentives to win individual races and to win the Overall, but nothing for compiling enough points for the SG globe---just too many cancelled races. But you do know this news is almost a month old, right? here: http://www.modernskiracing.com/index.php Hey, Rob, have you noticed the negative tone he's had toward NASTAR? Nothing overt, but definitely a big change. And he blew of the Nationals...must be pissed that Madsen won't let him sell his DVD via NASTAR. Just my guess, though...

With the crazy weather these days they have to get races in. Cut the events and you have even less chance of having a WC circuit. But you do know this news is almost a month old, right? Sounds like a bunch of crap. I wouldn't waste my money to go to a clinic. I think it's an interesting argument, whether to drop SG. I think they want to increase the Super Combined events, for one thing. The old greats like Stenmark and Killy both used to rag on combined events, calling them a complete waste of time and a joke. Seems like it's the future of ski racing, in a way, especially since they figured out a method for evening out the chances between slalom and DH specialists. As you know, with two slalom runs, a downhiller had no chance of winning and entered just to bottom feed some points. I remember being amazed when they first proposed SG, since FIS is so slow to make changes, let alone add a discipline. Be careful what you say about waist steering, or you risk having your pets mysteriously disappear in the night.
