Skiing is skiing. No matter where you are at, what trails you go on, and what kind of snow you ski on.

false statement.

skiing powder in trees/bowls/chutes/anything steep out west is completely different than skiing east coast ice groomers.

I just don't know how to ski in powder. But the groomers are still nice. What so bad about them?

I believe you had a great situation to learn and practice.

But I'm 16, I am not yet advanced to ski the bowls, or go tree skiing. I am still learning all that stuff with the pow skiing. I'm still learning to ski period. I am still learning to ski period. I am not the worst skier out there, but not the best. I guess you can say, I am more of an intermediate/expert skier. I can ski anything between one blue square, to a double black diamond (At Blue), but out west, I can ski a single. Anything harder than that, I will shit myself.

EDIT:

CaptDave, I was skiing the pow. I was on the mountain from 9:00 to 2:00pm... Powder all day. It took me a while to get the hang of it. But I still need a few more pow days. I need powder skis as well.

i was skiing bowls when i was 11

Good for you. But I never went out west when I was 11. I was skiing very rarely at age 11.

And plus, I am not that physically fit. I am a bit overweight. So its harder for me to ski as good as alot of you guys. So shoot me, an overweight 16 year old skiing. I mean, I am not THAT over weight, maybe 3-4 pounds over. But I still have a gut.... :banghead

Just enjoy yourself, there's something for everyone at an out-west resort, from deep powder (wet and heavy or light and fluffy) to groomers nicer than you will see on the east coast (except on very rare days), to trees, chutes, bowls etc.

Dont kill yourself trying stuff your not happy with just because of anything we've said here.

I wish I was still out there.... :banghead

Oh, and you don't need powder ski's, you need a snowboard :yes

I was not even sking/riding by then. I started at 14 or 15 and 2 sesons later i could handle everthing in PA and when i whent out west for the fist time the only things that scared me were chutes.

Guys leave Chippy alone..he has a great enthusiasm for skiing..if everybody was a crazy sick dank gnarly ass'd powder hound..then shit would get tracked out so much faster...When I was 16 I was an intermediate skier although I thought I was an expert because I skied expert runs...I still don't consider myself an expert..experts are the top fraction of a percentage who can handle everything thrown at them from breakable crust to ice to pow to crud with steeze...I consider myself advanced/near expert because from time to time I'm not at the top of my game and flail like a gaper..kind of like when I crashed on Paradise with a beer in my hand.

Chippy keep the reports coming...and take lots of pictures..

I wish I stayed for the crash. I had some good falls too that day, sexkitten was nice to wait for me.

I am enjoying myself. I just don't like powder that much yet. Keyword 'yet'.

Alright, for today, I got to the Gondola at 8:35 am, and we were the first in line. We also got first cabin of the Gondola, and my dad and I were the only two on it. I did many laps off the Thunder Chair. For the first 30-60 minutes, the clouds were out, and made everything look invisible (trail wise, on the groomers). It was the flattest light possible. I was out of it for the fist hour and a half. But once the sun came out, I was back to my skiing self. We went to eat lunch at about 12:45, and ended at about 1:10-1:15 pm. The snow got so sticky, and it made my skis jerk back and forth. It sucked. Same with my dads skis. We need to give our skis a good waxing tonight, so they can be ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow, hopefully I can keep skiing till 4:00 pm.

I quit a bit early today, because I was really satisfied in the morning. But it turned slushy mad quick even on the top. That was another reason I quit early today.

I didn't take many pics today. But then again, I haven't been taking many pics at all. But I will take as many as possible tomorrow.

you do not need powder skis to ski powder.... how do you think they skied powder 10 years ago? there were no fat skis back then. heck, this season i skied chest deep powder on a pair of center mounted park skis....with a 76mm underfoot... and guess what? it never gets too deep, no matter what kind of skis you have.

oh and, i dont blame you about not being able to ski double blacks at JH. the only double blacks there are corbets, alta chutes, and like 2 other ones i cant remember. and those are all like 50-60 degree pitch, challenge at blue is like a 35 degree pitch.

one more thing..... bowl skiing is one of the easyest and most exhilerating things i have ever done, you dont have to be an expert to ski bowls. i remember skiing artes bowl at breck last year after a 2 foot storm..... most fun i have ever had....

But this powder was very heavy. But the next day, it was nice and fluffy. I skied some tracked out light powder the day after the storm (Yesterday-Tuesday). But what ever. I am still having fun.

ahem..... chest deep NEW YORK pow = the heaviest pow ive ever skied in, besides alpental...that shit is slush. BUT, as i said before, any pow is fun.

(for anyone that ever goes to gore, put darkside glades, mineshaft glades and twister glades on your checklist..... oh and lies is the steepest trail i have ever skied that wasnt off-piste)

but whatever floats your boat. as long as you having fun, its worth it to go out west. im glad to hear your loving it.

Yeah, I'm having fun. I am loving it out here. Sunny yesterday, and Tuesday. Sunny again today. Blue bird days at Jackson=AWESOME!

Well, this was the last day of the ski season for me. It was a great season. Lots of cold weather when it really counted, good snow, and skiing every weekend.

Today at J-hole, it got slushy really quick. It snowed about 2 inches at the top, made for a nice surface. Under it was frozen groomer trails. As the morning progressed, the snow got stickier at the bottom of Thunder Chair. But at the top, it was packed powder. Nice stuff. So after about 3 runs, my skis needed a good wax job, so I waxed them with a candle :banghead . It didn't work to well, but an improvement non-the-less. At around 12:30, I traversed over to Casper Restaurant, and ate outside.

Heres a funny story of something that happened at the cafeteria...:

A chef and I talking:

Chef: Dude, you know how in McDonalds, you get a nickel and put it on the table, and then get a pepper shaker and smash it on the nickel, so the bottom of the pepper shaker breaks?

Me: Nope...

Chef: Okay, so do you see that guy in the next booth cleaning the glass shelves?

Me: Yep.

Chef: Go to him, and ask him for the pepper shaker.

Me: Okay. (SO I walk over to the guy, and ask him for the pepper shaker, and he gives it to me. As he is picking it up, all the pepper gets dumped on the cleaned glass shelves. It was hilarious!)

The guy: Oh my god.

Me: The chefs made me do it.

Chefs: Good job dude. That was brilliant!

Me: Yeah that was pretty funny..

So yeah, thats it. I laughed so hard. EVERYONE that saw it, cracked up.

Then after lunch, I skied back to the Thunder Chair and made three more runs. I couldn't ski till 4 because the snow plain old sucked. It was sticky, slushy. Especially at the bottom on Sundance. It took awhile for me to get down, because that corn snow/slush was so heavy, I just couldn't do it.

Is it possible that Stowe had better conditions than Jackson Hole.....J-Hole has the better terrain though...nice reports Chip...It's too bad Blue is closed..the chef that pulled the pepper prank seems like he was a few fries short of a happy meal...Did you ski Rendevous bowl at all? Was it open?

Rendevous Bowl was a bit to challenging for me. My dad did though, and he had a hard time. I just got back from getting a burger at the Snake River Lodge. On the way back to my hotel (Teton Mountain Lodge), I saw the most drunkest guy EVER! He was walking down steps, and he was stumbling with every step he took. He even dropped his skis... :rofl It was so funny!

Challange at blue is < 20 degrees

I think, when i was riding in the groomer on challenge, the level gauge on the side of the window read around 15 or 20 degrees. Don't remember for sure, but 35 is a bit extreme...

So yeah, thats it. I laughed so hard. EVERYONE that saw it, cracked up.

Next time i'm at mickey d's i'm gonna try that. Maybe this is chippy's ladies man secret.... the cats out of the box now.......jejejejeaaa
