trackbiker Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Here's a link to a thread on NELSAP.org with some pictures that I thought some people on this site be interested in. If you check it out, please be respectful and ask permission before you walk around the property. The Cactus Grill has great food and a nice selection of micro brews on tap. It is a small place, so weekdays are best. (closed Tuesdays). If you do stop for some food or beer, let them know where you heard about the place. Maybe we could add Lost PA Ski Areas as a Topic to the site? Piper Hill Thread on NELSAP.org Cactus Grill Website Quote
Rowsdower Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 (edited) There's a lost ski area in north Berks County called Hawn Mountain. It's on the eastern end of the mountain that adjoins the Pinnacle to the southeast. Think it closed in the 70s. You can still see the runs clearly on the mountainside. I think they had a couple of rope tows and a t-bar and maybe 300ft of vert. Edited May 8, 2007 by Rowsdower Quote

Rowsdower Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Hahn Mountain not Hawn Mountain, ok. My bad, I didnt remember the spelling, just the pronunciation. Also cleared up some of the details about the mountain I didnt get right. I had no idea they had a double lift which is strange... oh well. rumor rumor rumor I had heard somewhere that somebody had bought the abandoned Blue Marsh Ski Area and where going to turn it into an all mountain terrain park. That nagging voice in the back of my head says its all lies though... Quote

That nagging voice in the back of my head says its all lies though... I heard that Blue Marsh is now a housing development but then I haven't been there so that could be a rumor. The T-bar from Blue Marsh was sold to an individual in New Hampshire who is building a private ski hill. Can't find the info on it right now but when I do I'll post it. Quote
Johnny Style Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Chadds Ford Chadds Peak perhaps? I used to ski there every day after school in the 80s on my high school ski team. Great memories of friends, poma lifts, night skiing, and slalom racing. Every time I ski at night I think about those care free nights spent at Chadds Peak. Here is a link to the DCski website where they have a couple of pictures of the place nowadays. http://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=30 Quote
Rowsdower Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 I remember they had like, the crazy death hill for tubing at Blue Marsh. There was a stretcher parked at the bottom and blood in the snow. Good times... Quote
trackbiker Posted May 11, 2007 Author Report Posted May 11, 2007 I had lunch at the Cactus Grill today, a.k.a. Piper Hill Lodge. I borrowed some pictures that were given to the owner by a customer who had taken them of her children in 1965. I had them scanned at a photo shop. No new HSQ at Sno doesn't seem so bad compared to rope tows! Here's a link to the site with the pics from 1965: NELSAP Piper Hill Thread Quote
