stever2003 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) I was talking to a family friend this weekend and told me about Alpine Mountain in the Poconos. Id never heard of it, so I just checked out the website. It doesnt look like a terrible place, but it doesnt look like theres anything special about it that should draw me there over the other local places. Has anyone here skied there? Does anybody ski there regularly? How is the place, hows the snow, etc...? EDIT: Oh ya, whats the vert? Edited October 21, 2007 by stever2003 Quote

I skied it back in the 70's and early 80's when it was Timber Hill, at that point it was a poma and 2 T=bars. I htink the vert is 450 Quote

I htink the vert is 450 450 would be generous I think. It would be AWESOME to have that headwall on private property. It's like 7 min north of stroudsburg, but I've only been there in the summer. Ski Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Alpine is a mild version of an already mild Shawnee. Or, it's a gnarly version of The Hideout Ski Hill Except for the headwall where they used to have a bump comp, it's a very large green circle ski area, with a few runs that are almost intermediate. The best the about Alpine is the crowds are almost always better than Shawnee, but the lifts and runs can't get really bad on Saturdays. Alpine might be the #1 Pocono area for percentage of first-timers. There are a couple of cruising runs, but you def spent most of your day tooling up the slow lifts. Kat and I skied in one of their annual races years ago and you had to skate at list six times out of the start, then skate again to get through the mid section Alpine can be a fun spot for a group during midweek, but there's no real draw other than to avoid Shawnee. But one word of caution: do NOT stand behind groomers. Ever. Doing so does not end well at Alpine. Anyone remember? Quote

snorovr Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 I went there once a year for like three years with a group. It was a good time with a group when I was younger. They used to keep some of the blown snow ungroomed on top of the headwall that made a fun jump, and their terrain park back in the day was kinda funny. Quote
