bigdaddyk Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 (edited) I arrived a little late, at 3:30. I had to take one of the air conditioners out of the window...still have two more to do. There were a few people already on the snow and the bulk of the crowd didn't show until around 4:30 / 5. It wasn't too crowded, but it still was a good crowd, to make it worth while being open, in my opinion. Coverage was pretty good and there were only a couple thin spots...the lift area was the sketchiest. It took about five runs to get my legs back, but it was a lot quicker than previous seasons...I'm assuming the short off season might have helped. I spoke to a few employees and they said that after Wednesday, they plan on blowing again and expanding to other parts of the mountain, if the cold snap hits us as predicted. Sixteen runs were enough for me, so I left at 5:30. I ran into a few brief downpours on the way home. Hopefully it doesn't ruin things too much. I was glad that there was a decent amount of space around / between features, so it made it worth my while to go. Hopefully the rest of the season falls into place. A_B Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 i was there tonight 330-600. i was def pleased i made the trip, everything was set up fine and there was no lift line Quote
nitro8604 Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I was from around 7 till 9. it rained a little bit but other then that it wasnt bad. Very few people were left by the time I got there, I think we were the last ones to leave. It was good to get back out there even with the rain. I cant wait to go again. Quote
bigdaddyk Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 (edited) Nice report..How much vert did you think each run was??? 400? I estimated 400 since BB is listed as having 475 feet. Although I'm not the best at guessing vert for trails. My vert. is usually based on what the mountain is listed as being. If the whole mountain isn't opened, or I only do half way like sometimes at Bell, then I will estimate it based on the mountain listing. Edited November 13, 2007 by bigdaddyk Quote
RidgeRacer Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 (edited) Nice report..How much vert did you think each run was??? 400?According to Google Earth (and I dont know how accurate this is but the very top of freedom is 2k feet. The bottom, where you would ski to the lift comes in at around 1825. So your looking at about 175 for vert. I would round up just for the sake of error and call it 200 vert. By the way the images of Jack Frost and Big Boulder have been enhanced and they look pretty awesome on Google Earth IMO.spoke to a few employees and they said that after Wednesday, they plan on blowing again and expanding to other parts of the mountain, if the cold snap hits us as predicted. bigdaddyk Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 ....Bigdaddyk any word on if they'll start blowing snow at Jack Frost this weekend? All I was told was whenever we get a prolonged cold snap, since JF is bigger. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 PA Ridge Racer, thanks for the info on the vert of Freedom...Last season I did lots of laps on the Big Boulder trail which I guess is almost the full 475 vert and that was so so short..so I'll be waiting to hit Big Boulder until they have a black diamond open.. Luckily I have a pass but if I didn't I don't know how many times I would shell out the $20 for 200 vert. Hopefully we get another cold snap this week and they can get a diamond open soon. Possibly 7-10 days from now? (and hopefully Jack Frost will get some of that too). We'll see. Saturday should be nice if they blow later this week. Quote
method9455 Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I would say JFBB is prob not worth it unless you are jibbing. I'm skipping this weekend, and starting thanksgiving at Belleayre, and hopefully I won't miss a week until April. Quote

I don't do any of the park stuff and I felt that there is plenty of room to move around the stuff. Besides, Bell has about the same thing opened as BB, except you have to hike at Bell. One trail is definately not worth me spending the gas money, for a three hour drive. Edited November 14, 2007 by bigdaddyk Quote

It's kind of a trade off though, I'd be going with my girlfriend, we both have passes to belleayre but I have the only pass to JFBB so its $30 on her ticket vs $30 for the trip up to belleayre and back, its kind of a wash moneywise, more time in a car to Belleayre but possibly more terrain open. It is a week away so who knows what the conditions will be. Quote
